I replied to both these messages but it didn't post so here is what I posted in reply to both. To Jim, That sounds like my great-grandfather's, John MacFarlane, brother that we have been trying to find for ages. He is listed in the 1871 census for Pictou County, NS as living on Pictou Island next to his brothers. He was not in the 1881 census. His wife was Sophia/Sophie Rogers; children were John Daniel (aka Duncan), Annie, Jessie, Catherine, Sarah, Elias( aka Ali), Hannah, Mary Ellen(married George W. Payne), David, Flora, George, Robertina.John and Allan also had brother Donald and sister Flora. We believe that Helen/Ellen MacFarlane that married Donald McDonald of Pictou Island was also a sister. To Michael. Allan, Donald and Helen ended up on Pictou Island, NS. Allan D.
