    3. Thank you for checking this. From his death record I have John born April 1848 with mother Anne Malcom. However, the info came from the same dau that gave Mull as pob and I have no other documentation to support it. I'll have to definately keep searching and see if I can reconcile the different data. The below would fit better with the census data from Kelton I found after this list steered me toward Dumfries yesterday. Alex suggested Mull of Galloway in an earlier email - what does "Mull" mean? As there are multiple uses of the word, it must refer to some geological feature? Thank you all again! > Date: Sun, 23 Oct 2011 11:17:07 +0100 > From: [email protected] > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: [SCT-ISLEOFMULL] Scotland census include Mull? > > Hi Lyn, > > I have checked Ancestory.com and cannot find a census record for John. > > Have found this at familysearch.org > > parents:Robert Carruthers, Anne Handley > name:John Carruthersgender:Malebaptism/christening date:04 Feb > 1849baptism/christening > place:, KELTON, KIRKCUDBRIGHT, SCOTLANDfather's name:Robert Carruthersmother's > name:Anne Handleyindexing project (batch) number:C11869-4system origin: > Scotland-VRsource film number:1067975 > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Only John with parents Robert and Anne with baptism 1848-1849 > > Hope this helps. > > Ian > > > > On 23 October 2011 10:55, ALEX FLETCHER <[email protected]> wrote: > > > Dear Lyn, I would imagine that she would be meaning the Mull of Galloway. > > We often get confused with the Mull of Kintyre so I don't see why it can't > > be the same with it. 3. Hi Lyn, The Kelton reference to me would point rather more to the Mull of Galloway rather than the Mull of Kintyre. The name "Mull" derives from Scottish Gaelic<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottish_Gaelic_language> : *Maol*, meaning a headland, signifying a jutting crag, promontory, brow of a hill or rock, and also baldness or bareness. The related derived noun refers to a land formation bare of trees, such as a rounded hill, summit, mountain or promontory. Good hunting.
