    1. [SCT-ISLEOFMULL] Ship "St Lawrence" Tobermory to Cape Breton, Canada, 1828

    3. In 1826 Maclean of Coll began to depopulate the Isle of Rum so he could lease the whole island to a single tenant. In July of that year about 300 of the island's residents, around three-quarters of the total population, were sent in two ships, the Highland Lad and the Dove of Harmony, to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. The remaining Rum islanders were sent to Cape Breton in 1828 on the St Lawrence, which sailed from Tobermory on 12 July 1828. In the passenger list of the St Lawrence in J.L. MacDougall's (1922) book History of Inverness County, Nova Scotia all 208 passengers on the ship are shown as being from Rum. However it is known that at least 7 persons (in one family) were from Coll, and it has been said that some150 were from Muck (see http://www.isleofrum.com/isleofrum-histor.html). Because it relates to emigrants from Coll, the passenger list of the St Lawrence, extracted from J.L.MacDougall's book and entered into a searchable Excel spreadsheet, has been added to the Emigrant Ships page of the Isle of Coll Genealogy website. There is room in the spreadsheet to add information about the origin of each of the passengers, and the list would be useful to many more people if that can be done. So my plea is for information, any information, about the origins of passengers on the St Lawrence that can be added to the spreadsheet. ___________________________________________ Keith Dash Sydney, Australia Isle of Tiree Genealogy: www.tireegenealogy.com Isle of Coll Genealogy: www.collgenealogy.com

    3. Dear Keith, The same is true of the 'Conrad' in 1849. Not all are from Tiree as some are from Mull. The exact numbers of the latter I can give to you next time if you wish - or have you already differentiated?
