William og Stewart was born circa 1721 Kilninian and is listed for the 1779 Argyle Inhabitants at Achronich, Aross 'og' means young/younger, and was called this as his father was also William. This information comes from family letters (The 1920s Letters), that can be downloaded/viewed here http://www.mullfamilies.co.uk/browsemedia.php?mediasearch=letters&mediatypeID=documents&tree=&tnggallery= According to the Letters, William was married three times, and had in total 19 children. There is a possibility that he was married four times* - his first marriage pre-OPR records, was to Janet McColl. She died 1768. In 1771 William married Unknown McInnes, and had one son Archibald, bap 1772 His third known marriage was to Mary Lamont in 1777. * a possible fourth marriage was the one to Catherine Lamont 1775, Kilninian. This one does site nicely beween his second and last. There is a gravestone in Knock cemetery of a William Stuart, and this could well be his father. (William og is also buried at Knock). This headstone can be viewed here http://www.mullfamilies.co.uk/showmedia.php?mediaID=1179&medialinkID=963 This William's inscription has been transcribed showing death as 1724. I believe this to be incorrect, as the '2' is clearly a '9' that has been weathered or defaced. This William (I refer to him as Athol) was therefor born about 1697, and would fit as being the father of William og. This may be/probably is the same William listed in the 1716 Arms Surrender at Corkamul I am descended from William og/Janet McColl More on this family coming soon Michael
