Dear Jacqueline, It was I, not Ian, that made the error on there being no McNaughtons on Mull, and it was Ian who corrected me by listing many. I haven't got to his list yet to cross-reference with some research, but will. Lanark County in eastern Ontario was settled first, in 1816-21, mainly by Glaswegians and that is why it is called Lanark County. Many of the spinners and weavers of Glasgow were left out of work after new inventions and with the end of the war in 1815 and the return of many soldiers. So the city fathers hired a gentleman to organize emigration which they financed. Some of the ships' lists are on the Internet and many of the entries in Donald Whyte's first volume list the emigrant/settlers from Glasgow, including even the township lot and concession they settled on in Lanark County.
