I have been following the Beaton/McGillivray discussion and wonder if any of your Beaton families had members who went to PEI. If so it might help to solve a little puzzle for me. My great grandfather, JOHN BOYD from Isle of Mull, married MARY MCGILLIVRAY, in 1836 in Vaughan Township. They later moved to Rocky Saugeen, Bentinck Township, just across the road from Glenelg, where Mary died in 1850. His second wife was FLORA BRUCE BEATON, a widow, born in Isle of Skye. Her son ALEXANDER BEATON, was born in Prince Edward Island in 1845, but by 1851 her husband seems to have died and she, along with other members of the Bruce family, was living in Caledon Township (then part of York County). John and Flora married in 1853 in Caledon. Since Bentinck and Caledon were about 100 miles apart I cant see how they could have met. I have wondered if it could be through the Beaton connection. Hi Marjorie As far as I know the Beatons I have came from Mull to Bentinck & Glenelg Ont from there some went to Bottineau North Dakota. Taking with them a few McArthur and McLean cousins, I'm not sure if any McGilvra(sp) went also. They all seemed to travel with family members. I have a double line of McArthur/McLean lines which goes back to Sarah Moran Beaton of the famed 7 Beaton sisters of Mull.(see pg 132 Bentinck Farm Lanes. Jessie and Duncan, pg 118 & 119 Lot 35, Con 2 WGR Archie & Sarah Flora) I'd love to have more details of your John Boyd/ Mary McGilvra(sp)/Flora Bruce Beaton families. You can contact via my personal e-mail address or through the Grey Co list if you care to continue that discussion. later Ida Harry or Marjorie McLeod wrote: > > I have been following the Beaton/McGillivray discussion and wonder if > any of your Beaton families had members who went to PEI.
