Thanks for posting your information. I have David CAMPBELL thought to be the natural child of Margaret McKINNON. I wondered if she might have had other natural children. Margaret McKINNON's siblings were Sally abt 1786 and Jannet abt 1790. Parents thought to be John McKINNON and Mary McLEAN though I have nothing else to relate them. This is why I feel the birth of her son David given the CAMPBELL name, someone might have anecdotal evidence of the event. Thank you Janet. I, for one, always appreciate it when people post information from certificates to list and I second your reminder about searching the archives. (map link appreciated) Welcome to my stomping ground. I'm not surprised to see a Mull/Morvern connection. Morvern Parish was originally two Parishes Kilunaig/Kilinloch, in the north, and Kilcolmkil (Keil), in the south; these were united in the 17th Century.. St. Fintan/Kilunaig (Cill Dhonaig) Graveyard is at GB Grid Ref NM 564 538 - immediately accross the Sound of Mull from the Aros Park at Tobermory. Les Many thanks, I knew that was your stomping ground :) (and that's the one) The cemetery/churchyard was given as Killunaig, but I found it (eventually) on Canmore where it is known as the following Bunavullin; St Fintan's Church; * Killintag * Burial Ground; Mungasdale; Bonnavoulin, Old Parish Church Of St Fintan As "Killintag" was close to the written "Killunaig", I've gone with the former name to avoid confusion with the one on Mull This burial ground, along with Kiel/Keil at Lochaline have been google-mapped on site (and join many others of Mull and worldwide) Michael www.mullfamilies.co.uk ----- Original Message ----- From: "Les Horn" <Leshorn@ythanonich.freeserve.co.uk> To: <sct-isleofmull@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, August 25, 2013 5:36 PM Subject: Re: [SCT-ISLEOFMULL] Mungastle > Michael asked > >>Came accross a burial in Killunaig Churchyard, Mungastle, Morven/Morvern >> Have googled but getting no joy in locating this cemetery/burial ground >> Anyone know please ? Ian (as webmaster) and any lister connected with Peter McInnes/Mary McPherson Mullgenealogy has the above couple married 24 Jan 1832 (source OPR), IGI details below. Does the OPR say Mary McPherson in Kilninian (or other place on Mull) ? Sorry last email - forgot that it would not include data It was from the National Library of Scotland http://www.nls.uk/events showing forthcoming events. I do wish I still lived there - 3 in particular I would go to. Welcome to the National Library of Scotland's September events programme. Unless otherwise stated, all events, exhibitions and workshops are free and take place in our George IV Bridge building in Edinburgh, EH1 1EW. Exhibitions and Displays Picturing Africa: Illustrating Livingstone's Travels Until 3 November 2013 David Livingstone's African explorations made him world famous. His own notes, sketches and maps, along with the photographs of John Kirk and the drawings and paintings of Thomas Baines were the basis of remarkable images of Africa made popular through bestselling books, illustrated newspapers and magic lantern shows. This exhibition brings together rare and unique material including original artwork, photographs, woodblocks, maps, letters, manuscripts and books of Livingstone and his companions who were responsible for creating some of the most iconic and popular pictures of Africa ever created. 3 September 2013, 18.00 David Livingstone was born into poverty at Blantyre, near Glasgow, in 1813. Largely self-taught as a boy, Scotland's enlightened higher education system allowed him to secure a medical training at Anderson's College in Glasgow in 1836. In 1841 he left for Africa and spent the next 32 years opening up the "Dark Continent". In this lecture Professor Mike Barrett will outline key scientific and geographical discoveries made by Livingstone and in particular discuss the impact of tropical diseases on his travels in Africa. Charlie, Meg and Me 17 September 2013, 18.00 The journey of more than 500 miles undertaken by Bonnie Prince Charlie in the wake of the battle of Culloden has been recreated for the first time by Gregor Ewing. Abandoning the comforts of modern life - not to mention his wife and children - he set out from Culloden Battlefield with just his loyal collie, Meg, for company. His extraordinary experience is recounted in Charlie, Meg and Me.

At the heart of the display is our copy of the first edition - three volumes in 'publishers boards', as they would have been seen by those who stepped into a bookshop in 1813 to buy the novel. The display tells the story of how Pride and Prejudice has become one of the most popular novels in the English language. <http://ih.constantcontact.com/fs155/1102261721925/img/947.jpg> Charlie, Meg and Me 17 September 2013, 18.00 The journey of more than 500 miles undertaken by Bonnie Prince Charlie in the wake of the battle of Culloden has been recreated for the first time by Gregor Ewing. Abandoning the comforts of modern life - not to mention his wife and children - he set out from Culloden Battlefield with just his loyal collie, Meg, for company. His extraordinary experience is recounted in Charlie, Meg and Me. . .
Elizabeth There were at least two marriages Hugh McLean/Flora McLean, those being 10 Feb 1779 & 25 May 1792 both Kilninian parish Allan bap 20 Sep 1800 Kilninian I had assumed belonged to the second family, but as his sister Catherine was born 1791, they would have to belong to the first-married family (again I'm assuming your Allan born 1799 is this one) However, your birth year for Hugh 1767 would not work (too young) for the 1779 marriage. Is this year correct ? Flora born 1759 works The IGI also has a female bap (no name) 29 May 1795 Kilninian, who could belong to either of the two couples The OPR for Allan should reveal where he was baptised in Kilninian parish Michael www.mullfamilies.co.uk ----- Original Message ----- From: "Elizabeth Fearon" <efearon@eastlink.ca> To: <sct-isleofmull@rootsweb.com> Cc: "Elizabeth Fearon" <efearon@eastlink.ca> Sent: Thursday, August 22, 2013 4:42 PM Subject: [SCT-ISLEOFMULL] McLeans in Cape Breton > HUGH MCLEAN (1767-1848) who was married to FLORA (1759-1835) left Mull > with their children CATHERINE (1791-1867) and ALLAN (1799-1876) and came > to Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia Canada. Thanks for this Michael.. Can you quote your source for the Catherine McDougall & John Beecroft marriage in 1846. I've found the other marriages and sources that you quoted. Original message has been snipped thanks again Ida ----- Original Message ----- From: "MF" <manofmull@mullfamilies.plus.com> To: <sct-isleofmull@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, August 20, 2013 4:12 PM Subject: Re: [SCT-ISLEOFMULL] Beecroft in Mariposa Victoria Co Ont from Mull > p.s. > > Marriage years > BEECROFT EDWARD .. HUGH MCLEAN (1767-1848) who was married to FLORA (1759-1835) left Mull with their children CATHERINE (1791-1867) and ALLAN (1799-1876) and came to Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia Canada. Oral tradition is that one of the family went to Australia and others may have stayed in Mull. They were Presbyterians who spoke Gaelic. I am trying to find their birthplace in Mull, perhaps in LANGAMULL AND BUNESSAN. Does anyone have connections to this family? Thank You Elizabeth Fearon Halifax NS
Could someone enlighten please - is it possible to trace a divorce back in the 1940's in Scotland and how? Isabella
In addition, "Special points to bear in mind" on the page needs some clarification - You need very accurate information. I suggest you make sure you have the marriage certificate in the first place: Quote: The NAS staff will only search for a case for which the year, the name of the pursuer, and preferably also of the defender, are provided. We will not make speculative searches of the indexes on the basis of vague information. If you only know the name of the defender, remember that as some indexes only list pursuers, you will need to make a speculative search in person or by proxy. The NAS can copy divorce records, if their condition allows, but cannot produce 'certified' extracts. This can only be done by the court. End Quote: Reference to "certified extracts" in this case means a document with an official seal which is the only evidence which can be produced for court purposes. You will need to hire a researcher if you cannot attend yourself. Hope this helps.
