    3. Ian & Listers It's a difficult job handling so many names. I put my hand up to having made errors, and no doubt the odd few exist. While I agree that webmasters need to be informed of anything amiss, I conscientiously seek out errors/duplication. I think this may be a 'time' issue. Ian, I've no idea whether you are in employment or not, or how much time each day you spend on Mullgenealogy. On average, I work on MullFamilies 12 hours per day, 7 days a week (some days, a mind-numbing 16-17 hours) Some errors/duplication are difficult to see, yet others can stand out like a sore thumb. It would be utopian if everything was as it should be, but over time we strive to 'get there'. Personally, I think that Mullgenalogy is a good website with lots to offer. Ian has given me his reasons for not going 'TNG', but I'd be lost without it. Linda too is doing a good job with Ancestralplaces. For those Listers that have not seen a TNG website, I have created a temporary password to enable viewing. 2. Ian Phillips
    3. Hi Libby and many others, A quick note to thank you for all your kind comments and support. As I have said many times in the past the website would not have grown to the size it is and be as comprehensive that it is without the support of so many of you from around the world. It's great to know that the website has helped so many, and continues to help research their family trees. I acknowledge that there are mistakes on the website. There a very, very few on the internet that do not some errors. My hope is that the errors are found and can be corrected. I can only ask those who feel that the website 'is rubbish' to stop using the website or take the more constructive view and let me know how the website can be improved. If there are errors please let me know so that all benefit. As ever there is always room for improvement, To this end I would welcome suggestions as to how the website could be enhanced by perhaps additional sections and improved functionality. Within reason I will endeavour to include your suggestions. It's a long time since I was a novice researcher and so cannot easily put myself in such a role and therefore know how to change things. Equally I'm sure that you might have come across ideas on other website that you have found useful and have thought that such a function would be useful on mullgenealogy. One benefit (and there are a good few drawbacks) of writing your own program code is that it can be easily (sometimes) enhanced. If you do make a suggestion, don't be to surprised if you asked to get involved in doing some testing. What I suppose I'm getting to is, lets all work together to make the website even better. Again many thanks to you all. Ian For people who marry more than once, it would be good if all their respective marriages were shown in chronological order (some are, some aren't) TNG allows me to sort spouses and children quite easily That aside, please take a look at the following non-chronological marriages from Mullgenealogy. Something is blatantly wrong here. Duncan is having children with both women at the same time !! :) I suspect that Ann McLean's husband is the wrong Duncan (i.e. bad link) Also, I cannot find an 1890 death for Duncan (at least not in Iona/Kilfinichen parish, but I did find the following from Kilfinichen Index (Iona back in by this time) 1891 MCPHAIL DUNCAN M 80 KILFINICHEN AND KILVICKEON /ARGYLL 542/00 0002 (could his death be Jan 1891) ? 3. Ian and Michael et al - I show Ann McLean as married to Duncan McPhail bapt 27 Feb 1818 Torosay d. 29 Oct 1890 Salen (parents Neil McPhail/Janet Campbell) So I agree with the two Duncan McPhails theory On 9/16/2013 12:37 PM, MF wrote: > Ian > > For people who marry more than once, it would be good if all their respective marriages were shown in chronological order (some are, some aren't) > > TNG allows me to sort spouses and children quite easily > > That aside, please take a look at the following non-chronological marriages from Mullgenealogy. 3. Ian I knew you were going to mention the MacLeans/MacLaines :) Many MacLeans got the latter spelling too (Census, BDMs) However, I fully understand your reasoning and might consider something at this end Michael www.mullfamilies.co.uk ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ian Phillips" <mullgenealogy@gmail.com> To: <sct-isleofmull@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, September 16, 2013 11:46 AM Subject: Re: [SCT-ISLEOFMULL] Census > Hi Michael, > > Always pleased to be coorected. > > Re your previous email. 3. Hi Michael, Always pleased to be coorected. Re your previous email. You could start another clan war mixing MacLean's with MacLaine's. I think you have taken my point that by not providing automatic alternatives a researcher could miss the very person they are looking for because as far as they are concerned they are using the correct spelling.
