    3. Ian I agree that Mullgenealogy will have records not on Mullfamilies (and vice versa), but surely you cannot have every name that has been registered !!. I decided to compile the complete list of SR births for MacLean/McLean, Kilninian parish 1855-1914. Part 1 below. As you would expect, the previous short list of 'orphans' are included here (and lots more). With the complete list, many of these names have known parents (non-orphans), and are included in the databases of Mullgenealogy and Mullfamilies. Thanks to the generosity of MF members, the purchase of the Indexes (and BDMs, pics, postcards etc...) has been made possible. Special thanks to Irfaan and Phyllis. In the case of the 1881 entry for Fanny, this has been corrected by me to Femy (GROS gets a lot wrong, and i've corrected dozens). Now dear listers, it's up to you to help in coming up with the parents of this lot !!. This is only a fraction of what can be found on site under Repositories. Please submit your research results to the list. Anyone can contact me directly too, and attachments of BDMs will be most welcome Michael www.mullfamilies.co.uk Year Surname Forename Sex Parish County GROS Ref 1855 MACLEAN \0 M KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0037 1855 MACLEAN ALEXANDER M KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0032 1855 MACLEAN CATHARINE F KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0040 1855 MACLEAN CHARLES M KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0029 1855 MCLEAN CHRISTINA F KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0020 1855 MACLEAN LACHLAN M KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0043 1855 MACLEAN MALCOLM M KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0039 1855 MACLEAN MARION F KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0025 1855 MACLEAN NIEL M KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0044 1856 MACLEAN \0 M KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0010 1856 MACLEAN \0 F KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0039 1856 MACLEAN \0 F KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0014 1856 MACLEAN \0 M KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0016 1856 MACLEAN \0 M KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0035 1856 MACLEAN ANNE F KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0025 1856 MACLEAN COLL M KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0044 1856 MACLEAN FLORY F KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0020 1856 MACLEAN GRACE F KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0037 1856 MACLEAN JOHN M KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0027 1856 MACLEAN MARGARET F KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0018 1856 MACLEAN MARY F KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0023 1856 MACLEAN MARY F KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0011 1857 MCLEAN \0 M KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0007 1857 MACLEAN \0 M KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0003 1857 MACLEAN \0 F KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0012 1857 MACLEAN GEORGE M KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0021 1857 MACLEAN HUGH M KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0017 1857 MACLEAN MARGARET F KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0018 1858 MACLEAN \0 F KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0012 1858 MACLEAN \0 M KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0022 1858 MACLEAN ALEXANDER M KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0005 1858 MACLEAN ALLAN M KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0007 1858 MACLEAN BELL F KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0035 1858 MACLEAN CATHERINE F KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0008 1858 MACLEAN CHARLES M KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0038 1858 MACLEAN DONALD M KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0020 1858 MACLEAN DUNCAN M KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0032 1859 MACLEAN \0 F KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0015 1859 MACLEAN ANNE F KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0017 1859 MACLEAN ANNE F KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0010 1859 MACLEAN ARCHIBALD M KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0003 1859 MACLEAN CATHARINE F KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0025 1859 MACLEAN DUNCAN M KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0020 1859 MACLEAN FLORY F KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0029 1859 MACLEAN JOHANN F KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0008 1859 MACLEAN MARION F KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0011 1860 MACLEAN ALEXANDER DUNCA M KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0038 1860 MACLEAN ALLAN M KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0049 1860 MACLEAN ANNE F KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0018 1860 MACLEAN CHRISTINA F KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0023 1860 MACLEAN HUGH M KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0026 1860 MACLEAN JANET F KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0019 1860 MACLEAN JOHN M KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0041 1860 MACLEAN JOHN M KILNINIAN AND KILMORE /ARGYLL 544/00 0032 www.mullfamilies.co.uk ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ian Phillips" <mullgenealogy@gmail.com> To: <sct-isleofmull@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, March 15, 2014 7:07 PM Subject: Re: [SCT-ISLEOFMULL] Orphaned Names > > In addition you might like to know it already has the records that Michael > is currently adding to his database. > > Best regards, > > Ian webmaster MullGenealogy.co.uk >

    3. Jean I'm still working through the SR Indexes of Kilninian parish, and adding names to the site database. Most parishes have been done, but Torosay will be next (Iona, Tobermory and Torosay to do) At present, I have a handful of McCannell names : John McCannell/Margaret Fletcher with two children bap Kilninian. There are also Connel/Connell and McConnell. Once I complete the SR Indexes, I will do more with the OPRs. 1. Re: [SCT-ISLEOFMULL] Orphaned Names
    2. MANOFMULL
    3. Mary The partial list of 'orphaned' names are those that I cannot tie/link to known families at present. The odd one or two might be known to Ian/Mullgenealogy, but I would guess that not all of these are. If any are known to Mullgenealogy, then they are only 'orphans' to Mullfamilies. Many names come to light by researchers buying a BDM for their family details, and submitting the result to the list/website. The purchase of the Indexes gives the complete list of names registered. For the reasons stated, (deaths, work movement & emigration) many of these registered names remain 'orphaned' until the birth record BDM is purchased. Even searching the IGI via Familysearch reveals nothing about many of the Indexed 'orphans'. As far as your own family is concerned, there's no hard and fast rule as to why they cannot be found. Many moved to the mainland for work, and others emigrated. Parents not shown as deceased on a marriage record, should mean they were alive at that time, but if omitted for whatever reason, would mean that they were in fact deceased. I have asked GROS on many occasions to find a death record that should exist but could not be found. They put it down to a 'mystery'. Just recently I added a name (birth record) that was not registered within the required 3 month period. It was eventually registered three years later !!. They had been 'cleared' possibly more than once and I think they might have been wary of sharing to much info. with anyone in authority. My great great grandparents, Catherine MCARTHUR and Archibald MCKINNON, both born around 1813, only appear on one census, 1841, at Burg, Kilninian with one child, Catherine MCKINNON b. 1839 (later married James MCDOUGALL in 1866). They had at least two more children, Donald MCKINNON in 1843 and Neil MCKINNON in 1847, possibly an Ann MCKINNON too. By 1851, they are all gone. Only Donald is to be found and he is with MCARTHUR relatives. Where is everyone else? We know Neil survived - he was my great grandfather. We think he must have grown up in an isolated place because he never learned to read/write nor speak English. Catherine married locally. On her 1866 marriage reg. it does not say that her parents were deceased, so where were they? I can understand dodging the census taker, but the undertaker??? No death regs. can be found - surely they're not living still? Is this common on Mull? Wondering what the percentage of undocumented people was during those times in that area. Maybe my missing family isn't that unusual. Thanks! Mary Fletcher Harris

    3. Although the databases of Mullgenealogy and Mullfamilies are considerable, many names are still waiting to be 'discovered'. Due to people dying, and families moving/emigrating, there are hundreds of unknowns that never made it to any Census returns. Thanks to the members of Mullfamilies, I have purchased the vast majority of the GROS OPR & SR Indexes of baptisms/births, which list thousands of names. The SR short list below is but a fraction of those names that I cannot link to existing known families. All these are of Kilninian parish, but I have many more from Kilninian and also the other Mull parishes. It is hoped that researchers of these surnames might be able to identify some, and pursue others. The results can be posted here for both camps, but I would be most grateful to receive any BDMs off list. I simply cannot afford to buy them all. There's no point in listing hundreds of names at present, until I see if there's a good response to this short list. 3. Hi Linda, Have printed it off so i can compare it with what I have. Will also look and see whether Nicolas Maclean, who sent his descendancy to the Lord Lyon might have made some comment on this. I know her made some corrections to the original history that had been given to the Lord Lyon. Nicolas is the head of Px branch. I have oblt the three genealogies you mentioned so i'll see if re-reading them adds to my info. Talk to you later when I've had a good look . jean -----Original Message----- From: sct-isleofmull-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:sct-isleofmull-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of twbennion@nc.rr.com Sent: Wednesday, 19 February 2014 3:12 AM To: SCT-ISLEOFMULL-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [SCT-ISLEOFMULL] Allan MacLean, of Gruline Need some help understanding an entry from Ontarian Families – Genealogies of United Empire Loyalist and Other Pioneer Families of Upper Canada, by Edward Marion Chadwick, Toronto (1898). His father named as James J Cameron - Scotland and mother Emily Druneau - France I can't find either James the son or James and Emily in UK and would have expected at least 1871 1881 census and can't find James the son b 1870 entering Canada or US 1896 as stated on census.
