    3. Thank you Linda for your help. I am interested in the McCormick line as well as the Bells. A McCormick in 1949 gave information to the latter Day Saints re my Ronald Campbell which perhaps indicates he was related to my family of Campbells or a close friend to te family. I think our small island of Mull had many connections but in time ,with such with such co -operation ,we will untangle the web. kind regards Gerry ----- Original Message ----- From: "linda" <lmtowne@alltel.net> To: <sct-isleofmull@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, January 25, 2007 11:38 AM Subject: Re: [SCT-ISLEOFMULL] new connection > Comcast.net sounds like a US email address to me. > > Linda (MacCormick) Towne > > -----Original Message----- > From: sct-isleofmull-bounces@rootsweb.com > [mailto:sct-isleofmull-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of gerry > Sent: Wednesday, January 24, 2007 7:41 PM > To: mull list > Subject: [SCT-ISLEOFMULL] new connection > > Hi listers > My clever cousin Jean Kinnaird found a Bell connection on World Connect > under Neil Bell bn Mull 1829 married Sarah Campbell bn1842 daughter of > Hectpor Francis Campbell and Catherine Fletcher. This was in the family > tree > compiled by a Mark Alan Mclean .We are keen to learn more from him re the > Mclean and Curry families who came also from Mull who was in his tree but > his email is no longer valid under mark60480@comcast.net .Any help > tracking > him would be appreciated -also it would be a help to know what country the > invalid email it is in. > > regards gerry > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > SCT-ISLEOFMULL-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without > the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > SCT-ISLEOFMULL-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without > the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    2. Danny
    3. Thank you to all the ladies who contacted me and want to know more. I would suggest that you google "Roses of the heart" and that will take you directly to the program and the pattern for the bonnets [easy]. For those who know nought about Australian history, there were tens of thousands of UK women sent to Australia as convicts, many like my 3 x g. gran were sent to Hobart Tasmania and spent years in the notorious women's prison. Many woman and untold children [many women gave favours to the guards or soldiers, or were raped] died in the prison, some like my gran were sent out to work on distant farms, some disappeared [probably killed by cruel property owners], the stories would break your heart, such was their horrendous existence until they gained their freedom. My gran's husband was convicted of stealing a cheese to feed his family [Somerset] and was sentenced to 7 years in Australia, gran thought she would join him and so pick-pocketed, got caught, but instead of being sent to Sydney she was sent to Hobart. He finished his time, went back to find her gone, he then came to find her but died at sea. They never saw each other again and their child perished in the Hobart prison [ filthy conditions, disease rife, malnutrition]. My gran ended up marrying again, the convict who drove the women out to the various properties to work, he died and she married twice more [9 children in all], the last time she married an engineer in NSW. She must have been one hell of a survivor. Christina Henri is the Project co-ordinator [ a university graduate] cjhenri@iinet.net.au The project will continue this year so if you feel like being creative, go ahead and join us. We need 25,000 bonnets by March 2008. I am starting my 4th bonnet today in memory of one of the women who did not survive the prison, if you would like to do that then I will send you a name. Cheers, Irene Kerr

However we are also involved with the Roses of the Heart Project and if any of you ladies can sew please look at this wonderful Project. The project work will be displayed in Australia this International Womens Day [March] but in 2008 will be displayed in London and maybe Paris ? I have put family history aside for a week or two to contribute to the Project and have gained enormous pleasure from my endeavours. If you have some time in the cold north consider helping, give it a go you won't regret it.
