    1. [SCT-ISLEOFMULL] McKinnon
    2. Elaine Robinson
    3. Hi While going through the files for Mull born people who had died in Ontario I found a McKinnon I didn't have in my database. Her death record said: Margaret McKinnon died July 27 1870 Ekfrid Twp, Middlesex County born Mull age 80 farmers widow informant James Thomson of Ekfrid I checked the 1851 census and she appears as: Margaret age 60 b SCT widow Conul age 26 b. LC (Quebec) farmer Alexander 22 b. LC labourer Donald 21 LC labourer Ann 23 b. LC Next door to them is a family of Thomsons, also from Scotland and with 2 born in Quebec. I know there were several Mull families who settled first in Quebec and then came to Ontario, however the ones I am aware of, settled in and around Finch Twp in Stormont County. Also Conul is a rather unusual name for a McKinnon. Any ideas out there? Elaine Robinson Georgetown Ontario Looking for McKinnons in Ontario

    2. Elizabeth McMillan
    3. Dear Listers Indirect family connection - to MacLean's in Mull. It may be that amongst those who are focussing on MacLean's just now, there may be a connection to this family. Sarah (Marion) Macmillan married Neil Maclean (Born Abt 1822 - using the 1861 Census and died before 1906). The relevant Census data is provided below. Sarah's parents are my great great grandparents. 1861 Census data from the Mull Geneaology Site. ------------------------------------------------ District 9, Page 7, House number 28. Balligown (Ballygown) 18613294 (Isle of Mull, Scotland). Neil MacLean is cited as being a Shepherd. Place of birth is Kilninian, Argyllshire. This is the same for all the children and for his wife who is listed as being Sarah Macmillan. Sara is the daughter of Archibald Macmillan and Flora Macmillan (nee McIntyre) and their grandson Angus MacLean was with them in the 1851 Census in Oskamull - cited as being 4 at the time. Angus (10 years later) is now cited as being 13. The family is listed as: Neil Maclean (39) Head Shepherd Sara Macmillan (39) Wife Angus MacLean (13) Son Ann MacLean (11) Dau Flora MacLean (9) Dau Catherine MacLean (5) Dau Shepherd's daughter Allan MacLean (3) Son Archibald MacLean (3) Grandson Balligown (Ballygown) is North West of Oskamull, on the Ballygown Bay, past Lagganulva and the Eas Fors Waterfalls. 3. I just got an item in the mail and realized what a great opportunity exists to create your own stamps (through Canada Post) and that it has lots of possibilities for family history projects. Things like stamps of ancestors - family groups - the old homestead - reunion groups -- anything that you have a digital image of becomes a postage stamp. http://picturepostage.ca/1 I gather a similar system already exists elsewhere - here are ones for the US -- UK -- NZ http://photos.stamps.com/ http://www.royalmail.com http://stamps.nzpost.co.nz/Cultures/en-NZ/Stamps/PersonalisedStamps2/Step1.htm Sincerely Ian -- Ian & Daphne Scott 51 Ambrose St. Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, C1A 3P5 (902) 892-5796 scotts@pei.sympatico.ca

    2. Tricia Barnett
    3. Hi Ida Thanks for email - some of it I already had. The McLullich threw me of track a bit when I first discovered it. . You are correct about Henrietta. I was looking for Neil McDougall and Henrietta McPhail late 1700s in Torosay taken from Birth place of their son Duncan McDougall bc 1802 -5 who moved to Laggan in Invernessshire. On discovering a Niel McLullich m Effy McPhail I did some digging and found: "Girls whose parents had given them the name Oighrig, were invariably recorded as Henrietta or Euphemia. Why Henrietta? Why Euphemia? . . . Every Oighrig whom I ever knew continued to be known as Oighrig whenever we spoke Gaelic and all those who had been dispossessed of their native tongue and spoke only English wished to be known as Effie or Etta . . . " I shall read through all the emails last couple of days - Thanks to all for input on these Mcdougal related names names. Moira. I will reply direct in next few days re Laggan families - There were of course many McPherson but. we may find a match. Thanks all Tricia

    3. Gail and others with Maclean backgrounds Since you won't be at the Maclean Gathering you can post your hard copy of your tree to Clan Maclean Gathering, 10 Berry Way, Rickmansworth. Herts, WD3 7EY England It will be brought to the genealogy room and can be displayed there. Don't forget to put your contact email on the hard copy so people can write to you. After the gathering the chart/tree will be passed to the manager of the Maclean Database Tim Maclaine for entry on the database if that is your wish. 3. Dear Mull listers, Maybe I should jump in again with my McLucas lot at this point, even though they are well recorded on the Mull site already. No-one else that I know of, bar descendants of the youngest son in Australia, has ever come up with any further links to them. This is a Kilninian and Kilmore parish family group from Calliach, Inivea, Kilmore, Kildavee, possibly Laggan, in the north-west. Names in the line are McLucas (in its various spellings, but only one McDougall) and Kennedy. Begins on the female side with Lauchlan KENNEDY who m. Catherine/Kitty MCDOUGALL/MCLUKAIS - Calliach 1786: Children: Margaret, Archibald, FLORA, Roderick and Malcolm baptised 1785-1798 The male side begins with Archibald MCLUCAS who m. Christian MCDOUGALL (in one record KILPATRICK) - Kildavee 1782 Known children: JOHN (1782) and Catherine - probably others I have not found John MCLUCAS m. Flora KENNEDY abt. 1808 in ?Kilmore Children: Christina, Ann, another Christina, Catherine, Mary, Malcolm, Lachlan, another Mary, Alexander, Sarah, Roderick, Margaret, Archibald baptised 1809 to about 1830-32 (family is victim of the Kilninian "gap" records). Except for the first Christina, the second Mary and Alexander, all emigrated to the Hunter Valley, Australia in late 1839 as part of the Dunmore Lang scheme, on the George Fyfe ex Tobermory (the only truly Mull-based family on this voyage) Any other links? 2. Moira MacPhail
    3. Hi Tricia I have a MacPhail family who were farming at Laggan in the 1800s too (for at least 30 years, from 1851, 1861 & 1871 census records). I understand from living descendants on Mull that some of this Laggan branch of the family are now in Sutherland. The MacPhails from Laggan were: Angus MacPhail (1786-1875)(s/o Donald MacPhail & Sarah Fletcher) & Mary MacPhail (m/n MacPhail) (d/o John MacPhail & Janet MacKinnon). They had 8 children that I know of and have acounted for 6. The elusive ones are John MacPhail b. around 1822, and Archibald b. 31/12/1829 - both were still alive in 1871 - and both were recorded as living at Laggan. Before 1851 Angus & his family were at Moy. One of Angus' daughters, Margaret (1825-1890) married Alexander MacEachern (MacKechnie) who was the son of John MacEachern & Margaret (or sometimes Catherine) MACDOUGALL. There are no descendants of Margaret & Alexander. I also have MacPhail/MacPherson. Archibald MacPhail (1781-1837) (s/o ?) married Anne MacPheson (1788-1875) d/o Alexander MacPherson & Catherine MacPhail). Ann MacPherson's siblings were: Hector MacPherson (1790-1872), Isabella MacPherson (1794-1877) & Mary MacPherson (married Donald Russel) and produced Archibald Russel in 1835. I've no other details on these MacPhersons. Can you let me know more about your Laggan family and MacPherson family? 3. Hi Tricia, Ian, and Jill I'm in the process of sorting through the McDougall/McLucais/McLucash/McLullich/McTillich/McCullough/McCulloch surnames at the moment. For some reason or another I had your Euphemia down as Henrietta McPhail :-( No wonder I didn't have them... Just did a quick search on the LDS site for your Neil McLullich & Effy McPhail and came up with the following Father: Neil Mclullich, Mother: Effy Mcphail 1. CATHRINE MCLULLICH - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 16 MAY 1804 Torosay, Argyll, Scotland 2. NEIL MCLULLICH - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Christening: 25 JUL 1815 Torosay, Argyll, Scotland 3.
