Sue By chance due you have any of the names of Donald and Elizabeth's children ? Now that I do the math I don't think there is a match since I believe the contemporary to Donald in my line was an Alexander married to Katherine. Who begat Alan who begat John and then Donald But as you say it doesn't hurt to ask. Have just been scanning the site that contains "The Register of Marriages for the Parish of Edinburgh, 1595-1800" and thought some of these might interest our list. While not all indicate a connection to the Isle of Mull, with the various spellings of MacLean, there must be a connection at some point. Spelling is as provided in the register. 1. Dear Listers I am continuing to search for the McINTYRE family in/from Mull, Scotland. My great great great grandmother was Flora McINTYRE (1781-1870) and she married Archibald McMILLAN - they lived in Oskamull, Isle of Mull Scoltand. They are present in the 1841 and 1851 census records for Oskamull. Then the family came to Portland Victoria Australia in the ship 'New Zelander' in 1853. On Flora McMILLAN's (nee McINTYRE) death certificate in Victoria is states that her paretns were Angus McINTYRE and Christine McCORMACK. As teh informant for her husband cited his parents are being Archibald McMILLAN and Christine MCCORMACK, I am not convinced that this name is the correct name of her mother. My father was named Neil McIntyre McMILLAN and so I have wondered who 'Neil McIntyre' was - after whom my father was named. Regards Libby McMillan libbymcm@tpg.com.au

Hi All, While we are on the subject of headstones, I am going to Mull later this year and would love to clean the headstone of a relative which was in a terrible state when I was there on my annual visit last year. It is made from the pink Mull granite and I am afraid of causing more damage. The lettering is still visible on most of it, but won't be for much longer unless it can be cleaned and perhaps coated with something to inhibit the growth of lichen, etc. Any suggestions? June. _________________________________________________________________ MSN Hotmail is evolving - check out the new Windows Live Mail http://ideas.live.co.uk

Its called 'Mull and Iona Photographs by John MacPherson' ISBN 1 84158 443 6. It contains lovely photos of the area & locals, and there is a colour photo of a Rose Cottage, Salen with the owner Alastair 'Addy' MacQuarie tending the garden at the front. I believe the boatman would be responsible for transporting people across to Iona. The sandy bay near Kintra would be ideal for this. Jean -----Original Message----- From: sct-isleofmull-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:sct-isleofmull-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Joy & John Sent: Monday, 19 March 2007 8:50 PM To: mull list Subject: [SCT-ISLEOFMULL] McInnes family - Boatman? Hello everyone, I wonder if anyone can help me. I have found my family in the 1841 Census for Iona. They are listed as living at Kintra in house number 28. The details are: Dugald MacInnes, age 30, Boatman, born in Parish Mary, age 30, born in Parish Christina, age 9, born in Parish Mary, age 6, born in parish Sandy [Alexander], age 2, born in Parish Duncan, age 7 months, born in Parish I am wondering what a Boatman would actually do. Would he be a fisherman, ferry man or something else? Would it be more likely that he owned the boat or worked for the owner of the boat? This family came out to Australia aboard the Maitland leaving Gravesend on the 14 September, 1848. They arrived in Australia at 6pm on the 7 January, 1849. Mary, aged 6, was my GGGrandmother. If anyone can give me any more details about this family or the area where they lived I would be most grateful. Cheers from Joy in Australia. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to SCT-ISLEOFMULL-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
Hello Ann, This is the closest I have come to seeing someone that could be part of my McIntyres. Malcolm McIntyre from Ardalanish had a wife called Flora Campbell and both those names are carried on. There is also a history of the McIntyres (The other McIntyre family) having relations who went out to the West Indies. I will have to do some more digging myself. Something may come up. Kind regards Jan Peasnell/Sydney/OZ ----- Original Message ----- From: Dale and Ann Ward To: janicepeasnell@primusonline.com.au Cc: scT-ISLEOFMULL@rootsweb.com Sent: Tuesday, March 20, 2007 12:35 AM Subject: Gilbert and Maggie (McIntyre) McArthur Hello Janice and List, Janice in reply to your question about Maggie's parentage today, I unfortunately have nothing to report. She was alternatively called Mary Margaret McIntyre if that helps you at all but I don't know her place of birth. She was not listed on the 1841 census so likely had died before then. Gilbert McArthur was the son of Charles McArthur. Charles was born in June 1734 and worked as a crofter at Tir Arragan farm, Argyll Estate, Isle of Mull. His wife's name is unknown to me. Charles had two other sons besides Gilbert. They were John b. 1771 and Charles b. 1778. Gilbert was born in 1774, all three were born in Tir Arragan. They were listed on the "Inhabitants on the Argyll Estate" list of 1779. Gilbert and Maggie had 6 children that I know of, with Malcolm appearing to be the 3rd one. They were: Flora b. 11 Feb or Mar. 1804 Tir Arragan John b. 27 Apr 1806, Tir Arragan Malcolm b. 1 Sept. 1807 Tir Arragan Dugald b. 26 Nov. 1809 Tir Arragan Duncan b. 29 June 1811 or 1 Jan 1811 -(first date might be a christening ?) Tir Arragan Mary b. 22 Aug 1813 Tir Arragan This information is from the Parish Records of Kilfinichen and Kilvickeon Parish and the 1841 Census for the same area. I have next to nothing further on the siblings of Malcolm, other than John who appears to have emigrated from Scotland after Malcolm. The Scottish research that has been done here was completed by my elderly cousins in the early 1970s in the Scottish Record office on their visit there. I've "inherited" their genealogical works on both their father's (my side) and their mother's - McArthur's side. Unfortunately, I don't have OPR numbers to be able to substantiate what they found. Any information I've stated above should be used then as a guide for further research. Hope this info is helpful to someone Ann Ward da.ward@sympatico.ca
