Hi Angela Welcome to the list. Sorry I have no connections to your family. You mention being a descendant of Ann McFadyen & Hugh McCowan. Is it their son Donald Nov 29 1826 who m's Janet McFadyen sometime prior to 1853 when their 1st son Neil was b/c Oct 20 1853 in KLF??? Donald McCowan was in Tiroran KLF in 1841 & 1851 thanks Ida Peter & Angela McMurtry wrote: >Hi There > >I am a new subscriber. Hello Les I highly recommend the site. I have been a member for over a year and the help within the site is excellent. I have had a few walls broken down from lots of different members that have access to information that I was unable to get. Most of the members are researchers and also help with various ideas, situations etc. It was a free site and to say the least it still is on certain searches. All the members recommended to the owner that we should pay a fee for the year, it is a small fee and it has a 3 tier situation, depending on what information is required. Most of the researchers actually travel out of there way to Archives in Scotland that I am unable to get to. I highly recommend the site. There is always someone there to help you. There is also an area where people put there certificates on the board and you never know you may come across a wee surprise or too that fits into your tree. I to date have found 2 cousins from been a member. You can even list your brick walls and someone is bound to help you. Firtst and foremost just introduce yourself first and see where it takes you. I'm a member too, and have had lots of help; the more members there are, the more we can all help each other. The forum deals with all areas of Scotland, and people from each area can often help with local knowledge and visits to take photos etc. Others offer look-ups in Enlgland and Wales, Ireland, Canada, Australia etc. and can help with folk who have gone abroad, Janet >-----Original Message----- >>From: sct-argyll-bounces@rootsweb.com >>[mailto:sct-argyll-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of Les Horn >>Sent: Thursday, 5 April 2007 5:42 a.m. >>To: Tiree Rootsweb; Isle of Mull Rootsweb; islay rootsweb; Argyll >>Rootsweb >>Subject: Re: [ARGYLL] Scotlands Family Tree Forum >> >> >>BlankHi all >> >>I've just had the following drawn to my attention. My McKinnon family were located in Kilfinichen and Kilvickeon parish at Bailememeanach, but I can't locate the place on Ian's location index. Since the previous place on the K&K census (1841) was Inchkenneth which is not mainland Mull it occurs to me that this might also be on an Island. Can anyone help? I am hoping this might give me a clue to where Catherine's parents in law (Alexander McKinnon and Ann McLean) were based in very early 1800s. Jean Whimp.

Hi Bob, Thanks for email. Trust that you are in good form and enjoying good golfing weather. Spring has certainly arrived here. Nice and warm and sunny. Hope it holds so that my sister in law and her son can see the island at its best. Will certainly call on Christian as the Salen shop accepts my newspaper tokens which the Tobermory shops don't. Quite a trip to get a paper but if I'm passing its fine. Certainly would be good to try and solve the mystery. There is still a chance that I have the information on the marriage yet to process. Will quiz Christian as best I can. You will be the first to know if there is a breakthough. Take care, Ian
Sorry I do not have details but there is a gentleman in VIC AUS who has a SHAW connection via McDONALD from Mull I believe. He is John BRAKE: I have his contact email as jhbrake@net2000.com.au Anne Maye.
Have posted this before but just trying again, looking for any information on the marriage of Hector McEachern and Catherine McKinnon was possibly around c 1800, I know they had at least 1 son, Arch, who at the time of his marriage was living in Kilpatrick. Also the marriage of Donald McEachern and Mary McKinnon possibly around the same time c 1800, they had at least one daughter Christina, who at the time of her marriage to Arch was living in Assapol. The marriage of Arch and Christina took place on 22 May 1826,
Hi Ian, The weather is a first taste of spring here today on the East of Scotland, so I hope you have it as good on Mull. Perhaps you might find time to call again on a certain relative of mine who might also be a relative of yours. It would be good to solve that mystery! Enjoy yourself. Bob M
Hi Jean, No problem. All part of the service. There are just so many alternative spellings, misreadings, transcription errors, etc. Just having a lunch break from washing and ironing, packing etc ready for trip north on Saturday. Weather forecast is not bad so hopefully we will get to see all of the island and Iona. Ian
Jean, I think the place you are looking for may be Balmeanach which is at Gribun (grid ref NM448 331) - it's at the end of a track which heads South just before the main coastal road turns inland towards Kinloch. It's fairly close to Inchkenneth. But it's quite a common name meaning "middle township" so there may be others. Hope this helps. Hello Angela, If you look at http://www.mullgenealogy.co.uk and check out Location Index you will find out where Tiroran is. An Ann McFayden widow of Malcolm McKinnon died at Tapul on 9/4/1866 aged 95. Her parents were Angus McFayden and Flora McArthur witness was Alex McFayden. Tapul is a short walk away from Tiroran by Mull standards. I am not researching the name but I had the record to hand. Ann could be a relation, but not necessarily so. Hi There I am a new subscriber. My interest in Mull lies with my ancestors - Donald McFADYEN b about 1761 who was a Farmer age 80 livng in Tiroran Mull. With him were children Neil McFADYEN 35 and Mary McFADYEN 40. Domalds wife was deceased prior to 1841 but acording to the death cert of daughter Ann she was CATHERINE CONNELL I am a descendant of his daughter ANN b 1795 Kilfinichen , she married Hugh COWAN 1817 in Kilmore Argyll. Ann died 1872 Oban. I'd like to hear from anyone who may be researching either name. I'd also like to know where Tiroran was on Mull and if anyone has any MI records for the area. Cheers Angela in Oz
Hi Sherri, No I dont have any Shaws in my tree as far as I know, but I have a recollection that there were some Shaw folk in West Australia who were in some way connected with the Pennycross Macleans at Carsaig. I suggest that you write to Christine at Balevulin Is of Mull (send it on the Mull list) as I think she may have had some correspondence with the Shaws in Australia and maybe can help. I cant locate Christines email so am sending this via the Mull list as well.
