    3. Hi Elaine I haven't noticed your Barbara McKinnon in 1851. I'm wondering if the Alexander McPhail with wife Ann (McKinnon). She maybe be the sibling. As Hugh McKinnon & Flora McPherson have Barbara b/c Nov 2 1806 and Ann b/c Sep 29 1811 I have Alexander McPhail & Ann McKinnon having the following ch: Donald Mar 12 1843 Flora Jul 22 1847 Hugh Jan 18 1850 John Mar 1 1853 This is speculation : My thinking is Barbara may have the ch: of John & Mary ? as I see a Lachlan McKinnon 1831 KLN 5012613, 33 sorry nothing for Margaret. This is probably a submitted record :-( later Ida Elaine Robinson wrote: >Hi >While on the subject of McPhails and McKinnons, I am trying to find the name of the McKinnon husband of Barbara McKinnon who, in 1841 is in Lephein with Lachlan McKinnon 11 and Margaret McKinnon 8 and in 1851 is a visitor with Alexander and Ann McPhail in Lephein. ..no sign of the children. In 1861 she is alone in Lephein and the census says she is in a private house. At this time the McPhails are in another house in Lephein and this census has Alex McPhail and Barbara McKinnon both born on Morvern. I am supposing she was a McPhail. I can't find her in 1871. I am not related to this McKinnon but it is just part of my on going search for Mull McKinnons. >Thanks > >Elaine Robinson >Georgetown Ontario >Looking for McKinnons in Ontario and Mull > >------------------------------- >To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to SCT-ISLEOFMULL-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message >

    1. [SCT-ISLEOFMULL] MCKINNONs ... Again!
    2. Ron Harris
    3. Hello, I'm back again looking for my great great grandparents who did a "disappearing act" mid 1800s from Burg, Kilninian, Mull - but likely never left! Archibald MCKINNON abt. 1810 - before 1882 & Catherine MCARTHUR abt. 1810 - before 1882 had a daughter, Catherine MCKINNON, abt. 1839. Archibald & Catherine are on the 1841 census at Burgh in Kilninian, both given as 35 years old with then 4 year old daughter, Catherine (born 1839, later married James MCDOUGALL). More children arrived later - Donald 1843, Neil 1847, Ann 1849. On the 1851 census for Burgh, only young Donald MCKINNON, by then 8 years old, turns up on the record. He is living with maternal relatives, Malcolm & Anne MCARTHUR. So where is the rest of the family? The children appear in & around Burg in later years, as they married & had a family of their own, which is why I know they did not die off nor immigrate. But Archibald & Catherine never appear on another census nor did they ever die apparently! We believe they developed an aversion to authorities after being "cleared" more than once & were quite likely scarce at census time. Our new theory is that they may have adopted an alias, which might explain why no record of their death anywhere in Scotland can be found by us. Possible surnames they may have used: MCARTHUR (their sons Donald & Neil turn up as MCARTHURs on 1 census) or perhaps MCLEAN? My question is: Does anyone have census records for Kilninian for 1851, 1861, 1871 or 1881 that show a couple born abt. 1810, with given names Archibald & Catherine, with ANY other surname at all? This is a complete fishing expedition, I know, and I don't expect anyone to dig through 100s or 1,00s of names, but I'm just wondering if they've been right under our noses all along. Thank you very much! Mary Fletcher Harris in Canada hoping to come to Mull summer 2008

    3. Hi all, I wonder if anyone can help me with this? Alexander Vass, Erraid, aged 23 married Mary McPhail, Fidden, aged 21 on 11th Sept 1867 at Fidden. Alexander's parents are listed as John Vass, quarryman, and Margaret Henderson, and Mary's parents are given as Hector McPhail, cowherd, and Ane McCallum. Mary died in 1923 at Blythswood, Glasgow. She was a widow, but I can't find a death recorded for Alexander and they don't seem to appear on any census records for Scotland. Mary's death was registered by Hector McDonald, nephew, and Alexanders occupation on both marriage and Mary's death certs appears to be fireman. I'm sure he must link in somewhere with the rest of the Vasses in Mull it defeats me. 3. Hi Jacqueline/Elaine That’s my guys as mentioned in Ardchoirk. They move to Morvern between 1848 and 1851 Census, most of the children Disappear. There are a few other Children of Anne and Neil not mentioned in the 1841 census: Duncan B 1822 Married Sarah McLachlan from Killean, in Campsie Stirlingshire and lived and died in Glasgow. John B 1823 died young as there is another son John in 1834 William Gray b 1842 Donald B 1844 I have only managed to Trace Duncan's and Robert's Lines so far, I have a couple of the sun in 1851 Census and a couple in 1861. On Anne's Death Certificate it names her Father as Donald and mother as Mary Stewart; I cannot find any marriage details for them. Donald is still Alive 1841 but dead I think before 1851 David No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. 3. Hi Elaine: I notice your message of the 1841 census Adrchoirk with a Donald Colquhoun. I have been searching for my Colquhoun family and have had no luck. An Alexander Colquhoun born ABT 1800+ or - came to Canada around 1820 with children Alexander, Donald, Lachlan, John, I wonder if they could be part of this same family? Do you have anything else on the Colquhoun family? Maybe someone else on the list might. Off to Scotland on Satuday and Mull on Monday. Looking forward to the trip and meeting Ian.
