    2. List: If you have access to databases which feature keyword search, please do use that facility without inserting names. A search of the US Passport Applications using Mull brought up the following: Donald McKinnon, DOB 14 May 1862, says he was born on Mull and is returning to Scotland for his health in 1920 from North Dakota. He says his father's name is Isaac. (IGI says a Donald born K&K to Isaac and a McGilvray in 1858) Application comes complete with photo. ecunningham@att.net --

    3. Sorry, The family at House 38 at Ardglass in the 1851 census should have been McKinnon, not McDonald. I made a mistake. The MacPhersons at House 34 have been claimed by Michael Ford. Ann was married to Duncan McPherson. Regards, Helen Danes. _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger! 3. New Year's greetings to you all from NZ. I am fascinated with the people who were last to leave Ulva from Starvation Point (Ardglass). My family were living in House 33, Archibald and Margaret McDonald and family in the 1851 census. The other dwellings were occupied by 34: Ann MacPherson and daughter, 35: Alexander and Flora McDonald and children, 36: Flora and Christian MacLean, 37: John and Janet McDonald and children, 38: Donald, Margaret, and Flora McDonald and Hector Black, 39: Archibald and Ann McArthur, 40: Catherine MacKinnon and children, 41: Archibald and Chirsty MacQuarie and children, 42: Donald MacQuarie and daughter, 43: Ann McDonald, and daughter, 44: Catharine McDonald. My folks moved to Tobermory but I'm not sure about all the others.Does anyone relate to these people? Regards, Helen Danes. _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger! 3. Brenda you are right on topic. I have a copy but will have to look for it. It maybe that Ian has copied it onto his list but I haven't looked . It is a case of just going through it page by page so if someone else has a bit more time I'll leave it to them but let me know if you don't get any replies.(I've just had my family stayting with me from Sydney and I'm "bushed" with getting back to normality and tidiness!!!!) As I recall it only lists names and the kind of weapons they handed in on 1716. Jean -----Original Message----- From: sct-isleofmull-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:sct-isleofmull-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Brenda Dougall Merriman, CG Sent: Wednesday, 2 January 2008 5:18 AM To: SCT-ISLEOFMULL@rootsweb.com Subject: [SCT-ISLEOFMULL] 1716 List New Year's greeting to all ... I'm new to this list. My interest is in the Isle of Coll but there's no rootsweb list for it. Ian mentioned a 1715 source for names on Mull, and I wondered if it's related to the following: Only recently I learned that the Scottish Record Society published in 1998 "Inhabitants of the Inner Isles, Morvern and Ardnamurchan, 1716" edited by Nicholas Maclean-Bristol. Does anyone on the list have a copy of that? I am interested in any McFadyens (McPhadden etc & all variants) mentioned on the Isle of Coll. The University of Guelph's McLaughlin Library (in Ontario, Canada) has a copy, but I don't know if or when I can go there. I hope this is not off-topic for this list ... 1. [SCT-ISLEOFMULL] Coll McPhadens
    2. Donald McIlhagga
    3. Hello Brenda. Here are one or two random Coll people. Duncan McPhaden, a Tenant at Garmony married Julian Maclean, daughter of James Maclean (Before 1720-1758) and Julia Maclaine/McLean. Julian was a neice both of John Lochbuy and his wife 'Lady Lochbuy' as well as Sir Allan, "The Knight". Duncan was a son of Gilbert McPhaden. Julia (Sheila) McPhaiden / Macfadyen married Charles McKinnon, a Farmer. They had two daughters, Flora and Christina. Flora (1797-1895) was my GGG Grandmother. She married John McLean (1794-1877) of Totronald, Coll. Christina married John McLean of Torreston. Duncan McPhedian married Catherine Campbell daughter of John Campbell and Bella Turner. At one stage John went to either Australia or New Zealand. He was son of Duncan Campbell (1784-1868). Hope this helps. Donald McIlhagga.

I have a copy of "Inhabitants of the Inner Isles, Morvern and Ardnamurchan, 1716" edited by Nicholas Maclean-Bristol. The following are the McPhadden entries for Coll Page 165 - At Breckachie - Donald Mcphaden Page 166 - At Feall - Angus Mcphaden - sick Page 166 - Hugh Roy Mcffaden Page 166 - Angus McPhadden and Angus McPhadden his son Hope that helps. 3. Hi Tom, >> Curious do you include Ulva when you use the reference of 1715. I did not reference Ulva because the MacQuarie's I found in 1715 where located on Mull. >>What is the area known as Laggan Ulva ? The following link gives the location of Laggan Ulva :- http://www.multimap.com/maps/?hloc=GB|laggan%20ulva Hope that helps. Ian

    3. Hello Ian and list: Ian I am glad your warming up it's the pits without heat that's for sure!!!! Yes, Happy New Year to all. After I found that record I did wonder but like always I took it to the lists to see for sure. Now a fellow in the Inverness(shire)list states that borders changed but Mull was never ever in Invernessshire!.That's the first time in all my searching that I've seen it so I am inclined to agree. As you know I was hoping to find some way to get info on my x3granddad.As you know also, I found and think sent you the article about fire on Mull that housed the records so a chief could not be linked and the land could be taken from the MacQuarries. That might have been the MacQuarrie site on Yahoo oops. Irregardless, I was hoping for a needle in a hay stack I guess. Your right I meant Mull not moved to Scotland. Thanks for your knowledge again. Sue P.

    3. Hi Sue and list, First of all, a happy new year to you all from a nice warm house. Central heating finally fixed after 8 cold nights. So much for a service contract. The Isle of Mull has never been in Inverness(shire). Ardnamurchan which is to the north of Mull on the other side of the Sound was a one point in Invernessshire. I can only suggest that the person giving the information or the person recording made an error. >> Could he have been born in Inverness and moved to Scotland is this what they may be saying? I think you mean 'moved to Mull'. I personally would say no to this. I still think it is a recording error. >> Where McQuaries in that part of Scotland around 1751 (when I estimate he was born by death age) There were McQuaries on Mull around 1751. I have McQuaries on Mull in 1715 (not a transposition error). Hope this helps, Ian

    3. Just a comment MacQuarrie as detailed in Clan MacQuarrie - A History- R.W. Munro and Alan Macquarrie and Jo Currie's Mull The Island and it's Peoples as examples both list MacQuarrie on Ulva 1n the 12th and 13 century. Curious do you include Ulva when you use the reference of 1715. Is Ulva considered part of Mull or is it a distinct property. I never thought to ask that question until Sue's question came up. What is the area known as Laggan Ulva ? 3. Hi Mary Fletcher Harris As co-ordinator of the British King [ship] Project I have actually done a tree for the Fletchers who came from Mull to Sydney in 1838/9 if you are interested. I have had no input from any direct living kin for this family so research is all my own except for a wonderful contribution of a photo from a lass from an indirect line, so I am happy to share with you what I have if you are interested. as long as you do not publish the info before the British King Project is published. Have you thought of the One-Name Studies. Irene Kerr Australia

    3. Hi Ian and list: Have a question for you. Recently I did a search and had a tree come up on line that was my Donald McQuarie married to Elizabeth McIntyre. They have him as Isle of Mull,Inverness, Scotland. Now when looking at map Inverness appears to be farther north and on west side of Scotland unless I'm missing something? Could he have been born in Inverness and moved to Scotland is this what they may be saying? 3. Hi Bonnie, McLain, McLean, etc did not come just from the Isle of Mull. In broad terms they came from areas adjacent to the Great Glen ie from Oban north to Inverness. I have just checked the Maclean.org database and regret that there is no trace of a Patrick McLain. I think you are going to have to check any Irish records that exist in order to obtain Patrick father and mothers names in order to make any progress. Ian webmaster www.mullgenealogy.co.uk
