    3. Ida - the only place I've seen Margaret with the surname of Rose is on that one marriage certificate (her son John and Christina Vass). Everything else I've encountered shows her as Black including her son, John's death certificate in 1908. Her own death certificate in 1882 shows her as the daughter of John Black and Catherine (McMillan) Black. I tend to think the Rose is an error. _________________________________________________________________________ For my own records I have recorded Margaret Black as Margaret (Rose) Black

    3. Ida, Linda, Yes, I agree. Does this make sense? Niel McInnes's mother was Mary McCormick, John's sister. If Margeret and Neil were cousins, then this would explain that, and would also prove that we have the right John McCormick - parents John McCormick and Margaret (Peggy) Black. Haven't found death certs for Margaret McGilvra yet, but will keep trying. 3. Hi everyone, I am trying to sort out dates of my McKinnon side of the family. Ida kindly sorted out information for me re John McKinnon who marries a Catherine Rankin 5th Feb 1772 in Kilninian. Date of death not known. They went on to have Charles who was the grandfather of my g-grandfather James McNair. Charles married Rachel Beaton. I would like to know the dates of birth, marriage, & death of John McKinnon & Mary Morrison who were the parents of John McKinnon. Also this John had a brother Donald who we don't know anything about. It seems as John & Donald's father was Archibald McKinnon. Again we don't know anything about him, only he lived in Sheaba in the early 1700s. Looking forward to any information. All the best, Ellen.

    3. In the 1891 Census, Neil McInnes and Margaret (McCormick) McInnes are shown with several children, the eldest being Donald McInnes 11. He's NOT with his mother in the 1881 census. A search at Scotlandspeople brings up a birth record for Donald McCormick b. Dec 30, 1878 at Fionnphort to Maggie McCormick, domestic servant. Anyone come across a stray infant in 1881? I'm wondering if he was put out for wet nursing?

    3. Hi Sandra and List. If you want to have a look at the area around Ardalanish try www.geograph.co.uk. It contains lots of 'stuff' including photos taken and submitted. They may not cover what you want but give you a chance to visually explore an area. Within the site go to 'maps'. Then you can click on the area around Mull and zoom. If you would rather you can specify you want to search grid NM3417. That will take you to nearby and bring up a range of photos of the area. Anne Maye.

    3. Hi Sandra, Hi Sandra, I order to get an idea of the area I suggest you try www.old-maps.co.uk When loaded click on the 'Discover your history.......' square bottom left hand corner. When the next screen is displayed enter 136900 and 719200 in the coordinates. This will display a map of the Adalanish area with field boundaries marked. As to what was there, the whole area has for many years been down to sheep and cattle farming. Ian

    3. I can't answer the question, but would love also to know a little bit about ardalanish if anyone has the answers. How big an area was it, what may have been there, etc. sandra mceachnie> Date: Fri, 11 Jan 2008 20:07:52 +0000> From: d.mackechnie@btinternet.com> To: sct-isleofmull@rootsweb.com> Subject: [SCT-ISLEOFMULL] Area's of Mull> > Hi All, just a quick question, although I can find the place names on the Mull Genealogy web pages can any tell me the comparative distances and where abouts the places named Kilpatrick, Assapol, Ardtun and Torrans where or are from each other. 3. Hi Donald, These are the approximate distances between the locations you listed using current roads. It could be that in older days, shorter cross country tracks could have been used. Torrans - Kilpatrick 4.6 miles Kilpatrick - Ardtun 2 miles Kilpatrick - Assapol 3.3 miles Ardtun - Assapol 3 miles I would suggest that all the locations are in a similar condition to Torrans in that the base of dwellings are all that remain. Currently Ardtun is experiencing a building explosion to the extent that there are no more telephone numbers available on the local exchange. Hope this helps, Ian DONALD MACKECHNIE wrote: > Hi All, just a quick question, although I can find the place names on the Mull Genealogy web pages can any tell me the comparative distances and where abouts the places named Kilpatrick, Assapol, Ardtun and Torrans where or are from each other.
