    3. Thank you very much for taking the time to type all that out for me. I don't see a connection as yet but the surnames of Catherine's parents and grandparents intrigue me as I have McLeans and McDonalds as well as McLachlans in my line. 3. BINGO !! That confirms it then This information will also make the 1807 marriage dates easier to allocate to the correct couples 1st Dugald McArthur married Mary McArthur on 21 /1/ 1807 Dugald was in Tireregan and Mary was in Knocknafanaig. 2nd Dugald McArthur married another Mary McArthur on 26 /3/1807 ,that Dugald was from Knocknafenaig and that Mary was from Ardalanish. (So perhaps the 1st Mary and the 2nd Dugald were brother and sister??) This now means that Mary who died 1860 was from Knocknafenaig, and married 21 Jan 1807 Her brother Dugald who died 1859 was married 26 Mar 1807 Thank you Margaret and Linda Michael ----- Original Message ----- From: "Linda M. 1. [SCT-ISLEOFMULL] McNiven
    2. Would appreciate a lookup on findmypast for Army records as I do not have access. Looking for Army Sergeant named Duncan McNiven/or McNevin born approx. 1780. Duncan and Sally / Marion McLean had one child born in Morvern 1803 and no other children born there until 1815. About 1806 was in Tuam, Galway, Ireland where my Stewart / William McNiven was born. William or Stewart McNiven died 1883. Stewart & Harriet McNiven had a son called Duncan born about 1840 but he worked as a fisherman. There were a few Duncans born about this time so anyone could be father to Anne McNiven daughter of Margaret McLean. Marilyn

    3. further I saw a Mary McArthur at MullGen with this information: Mary MCARTHUR Birth : abt 1783 Baptised : Died : 7 Feb 1860, Ardchiavaig, Isle of Mull, Argyllshire, Scotland Buried : Father : Donald MCARTHUR Mother : Christina MCPHEE Children Hugh which would be the same parents as I'm postulating for Dugald Uisken which would make sense given our theory of one of the Mary's being sister to the other Dugald. Which would sort out the marriages nicely wouldn't it? And with the son Hugh (presumably as the death informant) - that could be Hugh b.1813 to Dugald/Mary Archiavaig which also fits Shame it's all theoretical and not proof... 3. Thanks Michael - and I agree that he's most likely the Ardchiavaig Dugald given the names. I noticed that Mullgen has the following also - doesn't show a wife's name *Dugald MCARTHUR* Birth : abt 1781 Baptised : Died : 11 Jun 1859, Uisken, Isle of Mull, Argyllshire, Scotland Buried : Father : Donald MCARTHUR <http://mullgenealogy.co.uk/MullSearch.ASP?indv_no=22379> Mother : Christina MCPHEE <http://mullgenealogy.co.uk/MullSearch.ASP?indv_no=22380> which age and death location-wise would be a good fit for Uisken Dugald but his parents' names don't show up in the list of known children which is less promising. However there doesn't seem to be another Dugald of appropriate age in the 1851 Census so.... What do you think? 1. [SCT-ISLEOFMULL] Request/Reminder on dates
    2. Linda M. Towne
    3. Hello everyone, Just a request about dates - if everyone could try to spell out the month ie today is 4 Aug 2011 when sharing dates on the list instead of using all numerals, it cuts down on confusion. Given that we have members from all over the world and it's not always apparent where someone is posting from (and not everyone is native to their current location anyway) and date format varies from place to place - ie: UK today's date would be 4/8/2011 but in the US it's 8/4/2011 - it's easy for confusion to arise when the format used by the person posting isn't necessarily the format used by the person reading. Thanks all! Linda - who is in the US but from the UK and easily confused on such matters :) -- Linda MacCormick Towne

    3. The National Archives website has had a make over recently and it does appear more user friendly for searching. It appears, unfortunately that some passenger lists did not survive. If the record simply didnt survive knowing about it may be some consolation rather than going round and round in circles. There's always hope; advice might help. This is a brief guide to help you find records of someone who emigrated from Britain. The best place to look is in the archives of the destination country, as there are relatively few records of people leaving Britain. There are many references in documents in The National Archives to people emigrating to other countries, but no single index of names. Most of our records are about emigration as a subject rather than about particular emigrants. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/emigrants.htm Findmypast.co.uk www.findmypast.co.uk in association with The National Archives, is proud to present ancestorsonboard, a new database featuring BT27 Outward Passenger Lists for long-distance voyages leaving the British Isles from 1960 right back to 1890 - but this is no good for those of you whose ancestors left prior thereto. BBC Magazine "Who do you think you are" caught my eye this morning http://www.ancestorsonboard.com/ Many records from before this period or for vessels travelling to destinations within Europe either do not survive or can be difficult to use without knowing precise information about date and port, but it is worth having a look at The National Archives guide at www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/RdLeaflet.asp?sLeafletID=106 to see what is available that may be relevant to you. On this page there are links, within a frame, on the page for migrants to various parts of the world. http://tinyurl.com/3k3d5ds Janet PS The next UK television series of WDYTYA starts next week.

    3. Hi all, I will be at the MacLean Gathering providing genealogical support. I understand that next year the genealogy area will be in the upper hall of the Aros Hall and not stuck away in the gym. Looking forward to meeting all who are planning on coming to the gathering. At the last gathering I managed to link up two sets of cousins who until the gathering where not aware of their relationship. Hoping to make even more links next year. Don't forget to bring your family tree information and we will see what can be added.
