    3. Hi everyone:   I followed the link that was suggested and tried to vote for the farm on ULVA as I understood there was a contest and the farm with the most votes would win.  When I tried to vote for the farm (was it called Treshnish) a UK postal code appear to be required.  This is what I meant when I said the contest did not work outside the UK.  Sorry for the confusion.   Margaret

    3. You've got BBC World http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world_radio_and_tv/of course but that doesn't necessarily air programmes that we hear, unless the material has been purchased by whatever service relays it. You can find schedules in your country from here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-radio-and-tv-12957298 Janet ----- Original Message ----- From: "Frances Caple" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, August 21, 2011 5:25 PM Subject: Re: [SCT-ISLEOFMULL] contest - Ulva I noticed my link didn't work and was pleased Ian found one that did, I've never seen that style of page before, I'm sorry it doesn't work for people outside the uk that want to hear the programme, I know people from other countries frequently listen to programmes online, I don't know if they only listen when the programme is on or by the listen again link,

    3. Good morning listers! There was no problem opening the Ulva programme including the radio broadcast from here (Canada) although I'm not sure if that was exactly the issue?? As it happens our June excursion to Mull and Iona took us right past the Ulva ferry. We stopped and looked across but it was late in the day, almost closing time and we'd have taken the ferry across then taken it right back so we opted not to cross. Didn't know anything about what was happening over there or we might have decided differently! Next trip! This may be the following Allan McFarlane, throu the age is off by 10 years: Allan McFarlane was born c. 1819/20 at Scotland (age 51 at time of 1871 census). He married Sophia/Sophie Rogers at New Glasgow in 1844; she was born c. 1820-21 in Nova Scotia (age 49 at time of 1871 census; aged 60 at 1881 census). 3. To add to the interest in statistics I have purchased a birth certificate in which the child is illegitimate and her mother aged 14. This serves to show there is a lot more information that we could draw upon in the certificates we purchase. I would also suggest that its a good idea to go back over the certificates you purchased, which you found were abortive, or the wrong subject person, at the time, because it could be that later down the line of your enquiries, that the information on those abortive certificates is now relevant to your enquiries. I have lately purchased 2 certificates in which the other entries are relevant to my research, viz other births, and marriage. I have yet to find all 3 deaths on the same certificate are relevant, other than the deaths of mother and child several days apart. What does all this say? I've probably purchased a lot of certificates?! ;-) Janet

    3. I agree - I've started inputting the extras from the certificates I purchase into my genealogy database because I have found often enough that they become relevant down the line. I'm in the process of going back and doing that for certificates purchased in the past.
