Hi Les & Tricia Thanks ever so much for the following and going the extra mile on this one As you sent me this as attached I'll include it here with Tricia's 1841 census info this way they can both be Archived. Sorry the formating goes to pot here... Hopefully the info comes out ok (:-))) And whoever belongs to this family can decide if it's the same family or not. Ida [email protected] Hi Ida Done a bit more digging. I looked at John Brown McDougall's birth, Neil McDougall's 2nd marriage and death. I've attached copies of these entries. I wondered if they would show something. John Brown McDougall's birth entry shows his parents, as Neil and Agnes Brown, married in Irvine (AYR) on 16/1/1884. Neil and Agnes's marriage entry only shows him as being widowed. However his death entry - in which intertestingly he's shown as Nigel - shows his 1st wife as ____ Munro. I also found the Canadian child - Somerled - missing from the 1881 Census. 3. Hi Ida I have me doubts about the 1841 Census for Wood Lane, Glasgow St. Peters, being the same family as that in 1881 for Selma Villa, Kilmore & Kilbride ie that of Rev Neil at the Parish House, Coll, in 1881.  According to the 1881 Selma Villa Census Mary (40) would, at most, be 1 yr old and Jessie (38) wouldn'y have even been thought of in 1841. Interestingly in the 1851 Census there is a Neil McDougal (21) a student in the "Normal Institution" - ie part of the Uni - in Edinburgh but from the Isle of Mull.  As you say "Neil McDougall Apr 5 1829 has Kilfinchen for his christening so he might  be born in Oban and they moved to KLF where he was christened." and could therefore be thought of as being from Mull. Isn't Genrealogy/Family History fascinating !!  Of course it would be boring if everything was staright forward. Regards Les

    3. Hi all Ida's query re the Rev Neil McDougall sparked a number of e-mails about the Fasti. First published in 1886 they were updated in the early 1900's. These may all be accessed on-line as .pdf's - http://www.dwalker.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Map.htm - but beware they are all quite sizeable downloads.  For those of you not used to .pdf's. Once the Volume has downloaded put your cursor accross the bottom of the screen to bring up the (hidden) tool bar.  Click on the bow sign at the right.  This will bring up the side-bar from where you can search. The reference to county names, eg Argyll, does not restrict the entry to that Civil County Regards Les Fasti Ecclesiae Scoticanae, The succession of Scottish ministers in the Church of Scotland from the Reformation, by the Rev. 3. Hi Les Thanks ever so much for this. I'll snip my original query to the list. Now I wonder if these children weren't born in Eldon Victoria Co., Ont too bad I don't see them in the IGI fische or on-line.. Their is a very vague listing in Eldon Connection by Ray Fleming which reports a possibility that a John McDougall might be the one who brought his aged mother Mary and his eldest sister Sarah who m's John McCarroll this couple I found as having children: Mary, Margaret, Christine, Minnie, Catherine, John, Ann, Jane and Lily. Hopefully someone else has more details on this family.. 1. [SCT-ISLEOFMULL] Can anyone help John MacDonald?
    2. Jill Dakin
    3. I have received a request for help from John MacDonald who lives in the UK and whose email address is [email protected] He has a black and white postcard with date stamp July 17 1911 that was in his grandmother’s effects when she died. The pc has a photograph of a park with some benches and railings on a footbridge which appears to be across a small river and is entitled “Park and River View Walkerville Ontario”. It is addressed to Misses MacArthur, farm, Uisgean, Bunessan, Ross of Mull, Scotland and the message reads “Dear Maggie and Flora We hope you are both keeping well. I wish I was in the Highlands with our Folks. It wont be long till I come home to see you all. With best love from your cousins Mary and Jim Stewart + kisses from Archie”. Are there any listers with McArthur or Stewart interests who can shed some light on this. I’ve suggested John joins the list but you could also reply to him direct. His mother’s family were MacArthurs from Uisgean, Ross of Mull and he knows that his g.grandmother had a sister Maggie/Margaret. They went to Colonsay with John’s grandfather when he was in his twenties so he thinks the Misses MacArthur would have been in their mid forties, early fifties in 1911. I’m sure John can supply further details if any of this rings a bell. Any help will be much appreciated. Jill
