    3. Dear Darryl, Yes, your folk are not my folk. From my records are the following: My John McDonald of Mariposa Township married Christy McPherson in Eldon Twp, Victoria County on 24.4.1850. His sister Christy married Alexander McDonald in Mariposa Twp, Victoria County on 26.3.1850. Do you know the parents of Christy or is that what you are trying to determine? How do you know she, though in Grey County, has a connection with Victoria County? Was your Christy born in Canada or Scotland, says the 1861 census? All the best. Elizabeth.

    3. Hi, Indeed we must spare a thought for those in Christchurch. They are indeed having more than there fair share of trouble. Hope the earthquakes finish before my proposed visit to New Zealand and Australia in March / April. Trust you all had a good Christmas and can now look forward to a happy, peaceful New Year. Since the initial aftershocks of 5.8, 5.3, 6.0 & 5.0 over a four hour period last Friday afternoon there have been in excess of 60 shakes registering over 3.00 on the Richter scale. Fortunately we on the outskirts of Ashburton are far enough away to feel the larger shakes but not suffer any damage. Regards Malcolm ME and PM McCormick

    3. Dear Jacqueline, It was I, not Ian, that made the error on there being no McNaughtons on Mull, and it was Ian who corrected me by listing many. I haven't got to his list yet to cross-reference with some research, but will. Lanark County in eastern Ontario was settled first, in 1816-21, mainly by Glaswegians and that is why it is called Lanark County. Many of the spinners and weavers of Glasgow were left out of work after new inventions and with the end of the war in 1815 and the return of many soldiers. So the city fathers hired a gentleman to organize emigration which they financed. Some of the ships' lists are on the Internet and many of the entries in Donald Whyte's first volume list the emigrant/settlers from Glasgow, including even the township lot and concession they settled on in Lanark County. 3. Dear Ted, Ida, Tricia, Jean, I did about 3-4 hours of research looking at my notes on the week-end and this is what I found Ted. 1. I am 80% sure that the John McLucais of Killunaig is your John 2. That your John and my Neil are brothers Here is the research from Jo Currie's written notes (faster for me to go to my binders than the microfilm in the local Mormon church) 1. "25.Feb. 1815 Neil McLucais tenant in Killunaig and Marrion Campbell in Torranachtrach were married" 2. "26 Jan. 1819 John McLucais in Killunaig and Mary McKinnon in Torranachtrach were married" (notice Jo says 1819 and the IGI says 1818. I haven't checked yet to see who is right) 3. Neil and Marrion have all kids baptised in Killunaig Mary 1816 John 1817 Murdoch 1827 Marion 1830 4. John and Mary have all kids baptized in Killunaig Marion 1819 Murdoch 1826 Ann 1830 Dates are in the OPR and my notes (I'm getting lazy here on the writing of the e-mail) But the Mary baptised 1816 is not there so she must be a child of the other couple. 5. When you look at the kids one would initially think the paternal grandparents are Murdoch and Marion. However, ******* there is not one, not even one, Murdoch McLucais/McDougall in the 1779 census of the Duke's anywhere in his lands on the mainland or on the islands. (or of any other alias, which are all listed at the back in the Index). 6. So I would think that my Neil's and your John's father is the John McLucass, aged 5, on page 103 of the 1779 census in Torrenichruich 7. And that their grandfather is the John McLucass merchant aged 60 in Torrenichruich, on page 103, the 5-year-old's father. 8. That your Mary McKinnon's father is the Murdoch McKinnon, tenant, aged 35, of Torrenichruich on page 103 9. Unfortunately the census gives the names and ages of males only and only the number of daughters In all there are 7 families in Killunaig and 10 in Torrenichruich in 1779. A question about the DNA you had done and the results. How many alleles were tested? eg 15,25,37,67? Was there a perfect match, and if so on how many alleles? For instance, I asked three of my first cousins to have their DNA done. Their fathers were three different brothers with the same father. Yet at 37 alleles there are still -2 removed, that is, not a perfect match. The three DNA results are posted on the Clan Gregor website links. But I have been told that at 15 alleles most McGregors have a perfect match. It is only at 37 and 67 that things start to diverge. Yet, some people have found long-lost siblings through a perfect match, so I often wonder at the quality of the analysis done by different DNA labs. Obviously different companies would have different standards and different companies chose to use different alleles to analyze. The long and the short of this for me is that, though at 67 alleles at the lab the Clan Gregor uses, there are folk I have e-mailed as leads, I have yet to find strong definitive breakthroughs on research. What company did you use? Perfect at how many alleles? All the best.
