    3. I too am getting back to you late, sorry. The relatives that you mention arriving in Ontario in the 1880`s would be a later wave than mine. Very possible that they are related though. There was a movement from Islay in the 1820`s to Ontario and in particular and in my case Kennedy`s, McKays, Patons, McPhails are all represented. The arrived in Quebec and travelled to Toronto – just north of Toronto in King Township. From there, a number of the same families moved further north to the Grey County area around Flesherton/Rock Mills as well as Owen Sound. Some of the earlier ones are buried in the First Baptist Cemetery, King Ontario. The names are there and in my case of the approximately 39 buried there all but one is a relative. All but one born in Islay or in Ontario after their parents arrival. You will find them as well further north in the Flesherton Ontario district cemeteries as well as Owen Sound. You may not know that one of the McPhail`s - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agnes_Macphail , again a relative possibly of yours and is mine holds a special place in Canadian politics. Hope that this helps. Some of my family definitely went to Ontario but as far as I know none of the Islay McPhails survived to go anywhere. Duncan McPhail who was a Customs Officer on Islay was actually born on Gigha and raised in Campbeltown where his Gigha-born mother Catherine McNeill lived. His father Malcolm McPhail was a mariner originating I think from Knapdale though I am not sure yet. Duncan, his wife Margaret Paterson, two daughters and one son all died in Scotland leaving no further offspring. However, some of my Gigha McNeills did go to Ontario around 1882 and lived at Owen Sound. Is this any help? I was wondering if your family was Ontario based after leaving Islay and in particular the King and Grey county areas. I am from the Kennedy family from Islay and there are Mcphail and Patons intermarried in the family and the areas mentioned. But it turned out that he had died while travelling on the mainland which was why I couldn't even find the death online. Does he appear on your burial list, Dixie? He died in July 1887 but in Perthshire. He is buried in the Bowmore Round Kirk yard with his wife Margaret Paterson.
