Hello List, I've received a wee bit more information on Christine Cooper's Curries, but I suspect that it won't get me anywhere. Does anybody know of a John Currie and Ann Moir marriage? I haven't got too far with the Currie side of the family yet. I've been digging in other family branches for a couple of years and am a member of the Western Australian Genealogy Society which has given me some good leads so far, but the Curries are a bit more difficult. A biography has been written about my aunt (Charmian Clift) which includes some info about my Curries, but so far I have not been able to verify it. My family was quite good at embroidering their stories, so I like to check things out. This is a quote from the book The Life and Myth of Charmian Clift by Nadia Wheatley; 'Amy's father James Currie, came of Scottish farming stock. His father John Currie was 'fiery' according to family tales, while his mother Anne (nee Moir) appears to have been a kind and hardworking woman. James was born in 1863 at Mungle Creek, New South Wales, but soon his parents moved to Queensland, where more children were born. By the 1880's the family had returned to New South Wales and bought a dairy farm at Inverell, where there was a sizeable and clannish Scottish community.' I have copy of James and Sarah Carson's marriage cert but it doesn't give parents' names. This was a marriage where the bride was very obviously pregnant and there probably wasn't too much parental support - not even names of witnesses. It gives James occupation as a coachbuilder. I cannot spot James' birth cert on NSW BMD and am unsure of the date of his death, although my mother remembered him, so he was alive in the 1920's, possibly 30's. I hope there is a connection here somewhere. It would be great to find a distant cousin down the Currie line. My grandmother was Amt Lila Currie from Inverell. Her parents were James Archibald (born Mungle Creek in 1863) and Sarah Carson. Do these fit with the Curries that you are researching? Regards Chris
