Does anyone have an idea where I could find a record of the arrival in Canada of Duncan McMillan, wife Margaret Cummin, sons John and Colin. Lived in Lagavulin, arrived in Canada 1830- 1832. Took up land in Quebec, St. Louis de Gonzague. Buela
Hi Buela Mildred Eleanor MacMillan, a McMillan family historian wrote a book about her family tree. Eleanor MacMillan was the great grand daughter of Duncan McMillan and Margaret Cumming. In her book "Family Memories", she states that McMillan's came to Canada in October, 1832. She only mentions that Duncan, Margaret and toddler's John and Colin made the voyage. She also states that she didn't know the name of the ship, but it may have been sponsored by Lord Selkirk. One of the possible reasons for going to St. Louis de Gonzaque, was probably to be closer to Margaret's parents and siblings, who were already in St. Louis de Gonzaque. The Cumming's made the trip in 1831. The Cumming's show up on the 1831 census for St. Louis, but the McMillan's do not. Another piece of information is the 1901 census for Ormstown, Quebec. On the 1901 census, John states he came to Canada in 1831. If it was in 1831, then it was most probably after the census. (taken in the spring) According to Scots Origins, both Colin and John were born in Kilcalomel and Kilberry, Argyll.
