Hi list, The world's largest DNA study is being done by Family Tree DNA, see their website http://www.familytreedna.com/ If you check through the list of group studies, you might find a McLarty one already started. I don't think its necessary to belong to an already established group. The Sinclair study started out with the male (Y) chromosome, but recently added the female study (mtDNA). The group administrator insisted that every participant do at least a 25 marker test, as that reveals a lot more information than the common 12 marker. My husband did a 37 marker test, and now apparently there are even more specific (57 and 67) marker tests. Once your test results come in, you get a password #, and you can compare the results with others who have agreed to make their DNA results available (this is not compulsory, you can keep it to yourself if you choose). If you leave an email address, others can also contact you and you can compare your documentary data if you think there is a family link. Certainly opens up new possibilities. That's as much as I've had time to learn. I should get on with these comparisons, but time is limited. Very interesting stuff though! Toni >From: "Nancy A.
