    3. Hi Marilyn, My family also descends from this John and Ann. I have done a bit of reading and researching on Kintyre but haven't been able to make a direct connection. I think it would have to have been very early as they seem to be connected to Gilchrists at Glenegadale in the 16/1700's. The names are very similar on Kintyre but I just couldn't find a direct link.... This is very interesting information from your uncle. Have you read the information on Steve's site about the "Farming" and "Fishing" Gilchrists on Kintyre? I haven't been able to do much geneology lately but always did suspect some sort of a link to Kintyre. Have you read any of the information from John Hutton. He had an article in the Ileach a while back. He had some interesting theories about the Gilchrist families on Islay. He has completed his research and I think copies are in the Museum and maybe Family History group. He doesn't go back off Islay though.
