Hi Rosemary, Do you have any further info on Neil McEachern ie which part of Islay he was from, parents names etc. We have a number of Neil's and I'm wondering if there is a match. Cheers Peter SCT-ISLAY-L-reque st@rootsweb.com To 23/06/2006 05:12 SCT-ISLAY-L@rootsweb.com cc Please respond to Subject SCT-ISLAY-L@roots [SCT-ISLAY] McKechnie/McEachern web.com from Islay to Ontario Hi Diana: I too am a McKechnie descendent in British Columbia. My gggrandmother was Christina McKechnie, born Christina McEachern in 1859 on Islay to Neil McEachern and Annie Brown. In the 1861 census on Islay, Neil was McEachern, and in the 1881 census in Ontario, Neil and Annie and children were McKechnie. No special explanation of the name change except to say it was likely just the culture change from Islay to Ontario. Neil and Annie are buried on Manitoulin Island in Ontario. Christina and her husband John Mutchmor, came eventually to New Westminster BC where they died and are buried. I'd be happy to share details if any of this sounds familiar. Thanks for the contact!
