    1. [SCT-ISLAY] Dr. Colin MacTAVISH reference + trolling for Anne CAMPBELL

    3. Hi all - been a long while since I've posted to these lists, so please forgive the cross-post if it's against the rules. Not sure if anyone was already aware of this reference to Dr. Colin MacTavish of Isla (sic) in the Letters of Letitia (MacTavish) Hargrave (1813-1854): http://tinyurl.com/phhuu Letitia is of the fur-trading MacTavish family (the clan chief's line), possible connections of which to my Islay/Jura/Mull MacTavishes I have being trying to determine for some time. In this excerpt, Letitia speaks (albeit unflatteringly!) of Colin as if she knew him previously, but there is no real clue as to the nature of the acquaintance or of any family relationship. Anyone else have any clues? Dr. Colin (1794-1856) is the son of my ancestor Dugald MacTavish (1750-1828) of Laggan. Dugald married one Anne Campbell. I have no information on her yet - she may be from Mull, or Islay, or elsewhere - so thought I would take this opportunity to see if she rang a bell. FYI, I am descended from Colin's brother Dugald, who emigrated to Quebec, Canada circa 1843. Cheers, Deb
