    1. Looking for info on DAWSONS of ISLAY
    2. Paul pinder
    3. Hi, My name is Paul Pinder and I am new to this list today.I am trying to find out all I can about some ancestors of mine. HERMAN DAWSON b1883 in Yorkshire and his wife ANNIE moved to ISLAY some time between 1900 and 1950 (sorry I can't be more specific) I believe that they lived at a farm called Leorin.I have found Leorin and it is I believe in Kildalton NR355486. Herman and Annie had to my Knowledge 3 boys - 1) Percy who married Jane Jones and moved to Maesoglan , Ceidio , Caernarfon and then Cannon farm , Llanerfyl before returning to Maesoglan to retire. 2)Eric who died 14 Aug 1954 aged 34 and is believed to be buried in Islay (Don't know where) 3)Herman Forshaw Dawson (Known as Bill) who went with Percy to Cannon and died 1 jan 1980 aged 71 and is buried in Llanerfyl. Herman (senior) died 23 Jan 1970 aged 88 and is either burried in Islay or Ceidio and Annie died 27 April 1969 aged 86 and is buried in Islay. That is all the info I have. All of my family history so far has been concerned with English and Welsh records and I have no idea as to what is available for Scottish census , BMD etc. If anybody has any Knowledge of this family , knows where they may be burried or can offer any advice as to how I might go about finding out more about them , I would be extremely grateful. Thanks in advance for any help or advice you may have to offer Best regards Paul

    3. Hi Paul, Your Islay connections are much more recent than mine but welcome to the list -- one of the most helpful anywhere). I suspect some of our more expert members will be able to give you pointers but I can tell you that Scotland's records are among the best in the world. You can check the scotlandspeople web site to see if they contain some of what you may be looking for. I would think, if deaths occurred on Islay that, even if dates too recent for "public" access, you could get information from them as you are a family member. Best of luck Dixie Cutler > Hi, > My name is Paul Pinder and I am new to this list today.I am trying to find out > all I can about some ancestors of mine. > HERMAN DAWSON b1883 in Yorkshire and his wife ANNIE moved to ISLAY some time > between 1900 and 1950 (sorry I can't be more specific) I believe that they > lived at a farm called Leorin.I have found Leorin and it is I believe in > Kildalton NR355486. > Herman and Annie had to my Knowledge 3 boys - > 1) Percy who married Jane Jones and moved to Maesoglan , Ceidio , Caernarfon > and then Cannon farm , Llanerfyl before returning to Maesoglan to retire. > 2)Eric who died 14 Aug 1954 aged 34 and is believed to be buried in Islay > (Don't know where) > 3)Herman Forshaw Dawson (Known as Bill) who went with Percy to Cannon and died > 1 jan 1980 aged 71 and is buried in Llanerfyl. > > Herman (senior) died 23 Jan 1970 aged 88 and is either burried in Islay or > Ceidio and Annie died 27 April 1969 aged 86 and is buried in Islay. > > That is all the info I have. > All of my family history so far has been concerned with English and Welsh > records and I have no idea as to what is available for Scottish census , BMD > etc. > If anybody has any Knowledge of this family , knows where they may be burried > or can offer any advice as to how I might go about finding out more about them > , I would be extremely grateful. > Thanks in advance for any help or advice you may have to offer > Best regards > Paul > > > ==== SCT-ISLAY Mailing List ==== > Here are some links related to the Isle of Islay: > http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~steve/islay/links.htm >
