Hi Johan: Many thanks for your kind offer. I know that John Mitchell was alive at the date of the 1881 census. I've checked Scotlandspeople for his death but have not found anything which would indicate he died in Greenock. The only Greenock reference was not who I was looking for. What I need to know is at what time John stopped appearing in the annual directories which showi the names of streets and occupants. I'm not sure what dates may be available for Greenock. The 1881 Census shows the following: 36 Crawford St West, Greenock Donald Mitchell age 46 Islay Flora Mitchell age 48 wife Islay John Mitchell u age 23 son Greenock John Campbell u age 20 stepson carpenter Islay Donald is the son of John Mitchell 47 Crawford St W Greenock Alexander Mitchell head age 36 House painter Islay Janet Mitchell wife age 37 Greenock John Mitchell w father age 74 Sugar House Lab Islay Any info on either of these families would be great, but I am most interested in the death of John Mitchell age 74 with the hope that his parents will be shown on the certificate. Anything that will narrow my search would be greatly appreciated. Have I managed to clarify what I want? If not, let me know and I'll try again.
