I have to report that Scotlands People have now got all the Census Records on line and this is a great resource. Had great success with Kildalton in 1851, 61, 71 & 81. Unfortunately the 1891 and 1901 Census did not have my Campbell & McDougall people recorded on Islay, but they were searchable. Found that the Marion McDougall that I found years ago living alone at Shenighart as a 50 yr. old labourer was not my gr. gr. grandmother after all, as my Marion had relocated to Paisley to be with family. Thoroughly reccommend the money spent as worthwhile. Celia.

FAO Celia Geary Celia, I see we share family surnames in our research of Islay and wonder if we are distantly related? My Great Grandmother was Annabella McDougall of Kildalton, Islay who married Neil Campbell from Tiree and my grandfather was their son John McDougall Campbell who married Margaret Nairn Oliver(although she was born in USA the family returned to Scotland about 1900) The following report from my software shows the relationships I have between Campbells and McDougalls, does anything match with your research? I have John Campbell on the 1851 census as the grandfather of Margaret and Ann McDougall at Frederick Crescent, Kildalton. The girls were 12 and 10 respectively. Their mother Isabella Campbell married Alexander McDougall. He died when the chilren were little and maybe Isabella had died or remarried. They also show up on the 1861 Census with John Campbell being 77. He does not appear on the 1871 census. Celia.
