    3. The McDougall families that I'm looking for were born on Islay but before the 1861 Census they moved to the mainland. John b. abt. 1816, and his wife Marion nee Brown b.1814, seemed to live in Paisley from their first arrival. John was an engine keeper/man. His sons Alexander, b.1835, and Finlay, b. 1837, were not with them on any earlier census of Paisley, but I found them again on the 1881 Census. Alexander married Catherine Darroch in Partick, Glasgow in 1857, but by 1881 they were living at 12 Storie St. Paisley, where Alex was a Maltsman and one of their daus. worked at a threadmill. Finlay married Catherine Livingstone in Paisley in 1867. By 1881 they were living at 15 Gordons Lane , Paisley, and Finlay was a carter. Catherine McDougall, sister of the above, married Dugald Jamieson, and by 1881 she was a widow living with her parents John and Marion McDougall at 24 Gordon's Lane, Paisley. All the spouses mentioned, were born in Islay. I wouldn't know whether some of their children were born at Neilston/Barrhead, but some were born in Paisley. I have their names if anyone is interested.
