Hi Angela, I never knew that the name Wilkinson was derived from "Macquilkan". If that is the case, did any of your "Wilkinsons" emigrate to Peel County? There are several of them buried in Boston Mills Cemetery, along with many other Islay emigrants. My maternal grandmother's family , WILKINSON, came from Argyll; however, one of her g-g-g-g-grandfather's brothers was born on Islay. WILKINSON was McQUILKIN when the family immigrated to the Cape Fear River area of NC about 1760-70. I'm not sure if the surname was spelled McQUILKIN in Scotland, but it was spelled with the "I" instead of the "A" in NC (McQUILKIN vs. MCQUILKAN). I always wondered why all the rest had birth places (in NC documents) in Argyll while this one person is listed with a birth place as Islay.
