    1. Re: [SCT-ISLAY] the Lochindaal boating accident + Sinclair, Turner, McLellan

    3. Thanks for the added information about "feeing", Joe. The Duncan Sinclair who also drowned in 1879 sinking, I think was from Kildalton parish, the son of John Sinclair and Mary McCuaig (baptised 25 Nov., 1853, so that's the closest Duncan, age 27, that I can find on Islay). So it would seem he was also out looking for work. The fact that it said that he was from "Tormisdale" in Kilchoman parish, would indicate that perhaps he had been working there, possibly in the slate business under the McLellans. In following his family, some of them turn up in Wellington County, Ontario. Duncan's sister, Catherine, married a "David Turner" there. I wonder if he was related to the captain of the sunken ship? There were also many Islay McLellans who emigrated to Wellington County. Some of them married with Islay Sinclairs. It's amazing to me how tightly-knit the Islay people remained after emigration. Mutual history, trust, and security probably had a lot to do with it, I expect.
