Just wondering if any of you travellers to Islay have a photo that may match a mystery family photo of mine which can be viewed at: http://www3.telus.net/artnorma/johnston Do you have a photo which matches the hills or the building in the background?? thanks Norma Callicott

Very hard to see building in background - sort of looks like a double exposure? Is it a white building? Many of the buildings on Islay are white. As for the hills, there are lots of little hills on Islay. Nancy MacLarty (who just came back).
Sorry for the poor quality, I've darkened the picture as much as I could. Go to : http://www3.telus.net/artnorma/johnston I am a a dead-end in my research and am grasping at straws. A photo archivist told me that this photo could not have been taken on Islay at the time I'm guessing it was taken, around 1855. Does anyone else have any Islay photos from this period or know of any photographers that worked on the island at that time - perhaps the archivist is correct. I think that I've found as much as I can on the internet and through ScotlandsPeople. If I go to Scotland what more can I find out that I haven't already found in the on-line records? thanks very much to all, Norma ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nancy A. Another speculation about why there aren't adult women in the photo - were there any sisters to the men in the picture? If not, perhaps it's a picture of the 'children' and 'grandchildren'?? I know we take pictures of 'direct family only' as well as total group shots. I've seen this photo before but cannot remember when or where or who showed it to me, so there's a good chance someone else on the list also has it.
