Hi Roy, Yes, there were indeed. The Royal Starch Works on Falside Road Paisley. They eventually became Brown and Polson, makers of custard powder, among other things. If you would like to contact me off list I can give you more information. Dear Jan & Jan: Some of my Islay people lived in the Neilston area for a little while. They actually married high church, Glasgow- but in the minister's house I guess. This has been a curiousity for me. Martha McNabb married Arch Currie in Nov 1867. They must have moved back to Islay quickly- their daughter was born Jan 1868. They emigrated to Ontario in 1869. Martha was listed as a farm servant at Craig of Neilston which I have kind of tracked down. I'm not sure how long she lived there and where her brother, John, was living in 1861. They're not listed with their parents in Pt Ellen. There were several John McNabb's in Glasgow in 1861. I haven't been able to find her at all. Any ideas? Martha would have been abt 21 in 1861 and and John 19. Their older brother, Colin, was living in Pt Ellen with their parents. Thanks! Carolyn
