    3. Welcome back Nancy! It sounds as though you had a great time. I'm new to the list and looking for ancestors from southern Islay (Galbraith). There doesn"t seem to be much evidence we were there. I did manage to find the baptism of Donald Galbreath at Daill, son of my g-g-grandparents, on http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~steve/islay/opr/. That is the only site I have found that information on. I'm looking forward to your photos Nancy. Connie Galbraith ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nancy A. We had wonderful weather and I really enjoyed myself there. Visited the Family History Centre, Islay House, the Round Church in Bowmore, Kildalton Crosses, Port Charlotte, Port Askaig, etc. & stayed in Port Ellen. I am making up a page of photos of Islay and will send the URL for it soon. The oldest gravestone I could find was 1790, but didn't find any McLarty's. However there seemed to be a connection there for me. I had always loved the sea, wind, rocks, etc. When I visited Newfoundland I loved it while my friend shivered! Must be because of my Islay ancestors' blood - earliest I have traced was my 4xGreat Grandfather James, Born 1753. 1. [SCT-ISLAY] Galbraith and Causes of Death
    2. Floraidh Ann
    3. Hello Connie, My 4GGM is Christina Galbraith died Portnahaven 3 Oct. 1856. DEATH Portnahaven Catharine Galbraith 64 yrs 3 Oct 1856 Spouse: Duncan Ferguson F: Norman Galbraith M: Janet Cameron Reg by - not listed C of D: Fever Res: Port Wemyss I copied this from Ted's list, but will have a look at the original some time soon. The name on the death cert. is given as Catharine, but I believe should be Christina, or Christian, as sometimes recorded on census. Also on Ted's list (thank you Ted) is the following info: Galbreath Norman Kinture Jenet 11 Jul 1793 Kildalton Galbreath Norman Kinture John 12 Sep 1794 Kildalton Galbreath Norman Kinture Angus 17 Jan 1797 Kildalton Galbreath Norman Ardmeanach Lauchlin 25 Sep 1798 Kildalton Galbreath Normand Kenture Christin 9 Oct 1791 Kildalton Interestingly, as you will see above, the cause of Christina's death is listed as "Fever" in Oct. 1856. Her daughter-in-law, Peggy Cameron, died of the same a few weeks earlier and her granddaughter died of the same cause a few weeks later. Have wondered what this "Fever" was - seems to have been contagious - and if it affected other families in Port Wemyss where they lived. On the subject of causes of death, are there any medically minded people on the list who could enlighten us as to some of the more bizarre listings? Poor little Dugald Ferguson died in 1871 aged 8 months of "Teething" yours morbidly, FloraidhAnn Send instant messages to your online friends http://uk.messenger.yahoo.com
