Talking about HLW and also FWK(Framework knitter) reminded me of the weavers who steeped the wool in aged urine to take the grease out of the wool. Everybody was asked to contribute to the container holding the urine-visitors and all. Occupations of 'pickler' and 'pickle bunger' are self explanatory I suppose, but what did they pickle in Scotland in the 1850's? Celia.
