While this is not wholly on the site, it is something to note if you are planning to visit the National Archives.... In Scotland, taxes were levied on male servants between 1777-98 and on female between 1785-1792. Most of the servants listed were engaged in domestic work. The volumes containing the schedules of these taxes are held by the National Archives of Scotland (reference E326/5 and E326/6) and they give the location, name of the master and usually the name of the servant.
