Some information for BUIE/SINCLAIR/SPENCE researchers. Ann Sinclair and Archibald Buie were married Jul 16, 1840, Kilarrow Parish, Islay and Charles Spence married Janet Buie Mar 15, 1836 in the same Parish. The 1841 census for Tallant Farm, Killarow Parish lists under the surname "Bowie", John, aged 60, Merchant Seaman, Janet, 55, Margaret 30, Mary 18, Cirsty 15 and John 8, Roeger Shaw 8 and NK 5 months. Cirsty may have married Neil Darroch who also settled in Arran Twp, Bruce Co,ON. Was John Buie's wife's maiden name Janet Livingston? Are there any other children of John and Janet Buie? Looks as though there are three Buie couples buried there. Archibald Buie died 19 August 1857 age 43 wife Ann 20 December 1861 age 54 Captain John Buie died 18 December 1874 age 93 wife Jennet 30 September 1857 age 74 Janet Buie died 8 October 1892 age 79 wife of Charles Spence 21 September 1878 age 68 yr 11 mos Native of Islay, Arglyeshire On the census of 1861 Arran Township Div 3 page 10 I have found John Buie Occupation Pensioner? Scotland Church of Scotland 80 Male Widower Ike? Buie Scotland Baptist 19 Female Single John Buie Scotland Baptist 17 Male Single Neil Buie Scotland Baptist 16 male single Anne Buie Stand Woman Scotland Baptist 50 Female Widow The census taker in Arran wrote down the year of marriage for each married couple and then drew a line through it. Best that I can tell John Buie married 1820 or 1810 and Anne Buie married 1840. Their neighbours Neil Darroch lived on Concession 4 lot 21 but I couldn't find any land records for the Buies in that vincinity I also checked for a will but I couldn't find one. If I am interpreting the info correctly then John Buie would be the father of Archibald? or an older brother? In Div 1 page 10 I found Charles Spence Farmer Scotland Baptist age 54 Male married Jessey Spence Scotland Baptist age 47? Female married Jessey Upper Can Baptist age 16 Female single Looks like they were married in 1837or 1839. I believe that they lived on the B line lot 15.
