    3. On various documents I have relating to one of my ancestors Francis Kean/Kane, it states that he was born in Bowmore but I can find no other records for this. I also have a document (his first childs birth certificate) which states he was born in Oban, which I thought was on the mainland. Can anyone shed any light on this? Also, does anyone know which parish Oban was in during the 19th century? thanks for any help forthcoming jane

    3. Johan, Ted, Sue and Dixie, My thanks to all of you who took the time to answer my query, I'm sorry it's taken until now to thank you but I've been laid up in bed for the last few days. I am particularly interested in the first Francis Kean mentioned, he was the one born in 1836 approx who was married to Elisabeth Robertson. I have his father as Hugh Kane born approx 1804 in Ireland, and his mother initially named as Margaret McDonald born in Argyll (I have no birth date info here). The 1841 census has her as Margaret, but subsequent census and the marriage certificates of the children have her as Harriet. So thats my first problem. Incidently although Francis and Elisabeth have a daughter named Harriet there's no Margaret and they do seem to have followed the naming protocol. I can find no mention of her prior to the 1841 census and I would realyy like to make sure I've got the right wife! My second is a discrepancy over age for Elisabeth Robertson. Her marriage certificate has her as age 20, and the birth of the first child Rosean has her age 21..so far so good. Her marriage certificate also states that her parents were John Robertson and Mary McLergan (also seen as McLean on other records in the OPR's) but John Robertsons death certificate has her as age 15 in 1855. Either I have the wrong Elisabeth Robertson and there's another one with the same set of parents, or she was indeed married to Francis at 14/15 and gave the wrong age on the marriage certificate. As you were so helpful last time I thought I'd ask if anyone had any thoughts on this. I do have quite a lot of info on the family from Francis Kean (1836) onwards as he is my great great grandfather (The line from James David Kean 1874, one of his youngest sons, to Elizabeth Robertson Kean(1910), to Heather Mary Lorimer Sharpe(1930)and then me!). So if anyone is interested in them I'd be happy to let them have any info I have, I do know that Elizabeth Kean (04 Mar 1870) married Malcolm Logan(1866) Thanks again jane ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ray K" <ray_koko@hotmail.com> To: <SCT-ISLAY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, January 31, 2006 5:38 PM Subject: Re: [SCT-ISLAY] blank wall > On various documents I have relating to one of my ancestors Francis > Kean/Kane, it states that he was born in Bowmore but I can find no other > records for this.
