Hi Micki, I have just come across a family tree of McEacherns that may be of interest to you. If you enter the name of the person you are researching when you open the SCT-ISLAY ARCHIVE list it connects to Ancestry.com, that will show a list of about 100 family trees of McEachern. You may already know of this link but hope it helps. I am still searching for my Catherine, daughter of Alex&Janet and I am now convinced that she must have been born out of wedlock and not baptised therefore no record. Still looking for her marriage to Duncan McArthur around 1832 onwards. Happy Hunting Dona On 10 Jan 2006, at 03:40, Micki McEachern wrote: > Hi Donna > I'm working on the McEachern line as well. I have a couple of comments about jumping to any conclusions because a record cannot be found in the OPR. 1. There are many illegitimate births noted in the OPRs so that wasn't a reason for exclusion. 2. Records are only as good as the record keeper - sadly some ministers didn't keep good records. 3. There were periods when there was a fee for baptisms, marriages and funerals - perhaps the family couldn't afford the fee? 4. Was the family Baptist? If so, there wouldn't be an infant baptism. I'm sure others can add to this list of possible reasons why you cannot find a record. We must not jump to conclusions. I know people today who have not had their children baptised for a variety of reasons so will the researcher of the future assume illegitmacy? I hope not. Cheerio Sue Visser
