Hi Alasdair, Welcome to the list. We've just returned from a visit to Islay. It is a very lovely island if you haven't been ............ Do you have dates for your father and grandparents? You should be able to find the marriage of your grandparents on scotlandspeople (£7 for 30 credits and a certificate only costs a total of 6 credits including the initial search). This should reveal the names of your great grandparents and possibly even great-greats depending on the dates. Using wildcards helps you not to waste credits - for instance for Euphemia try just E* or Eu* and gradually narrow it down. Compulsory registration began in 1855 in Scotland but you can often find marriages earlier than that on the Old Parish Records also via scotlandspeople. best regards, Mary
