My sister and I are travelling to Islay in August and would love to find more about our family before then. I have found an OPR for the baptism of an Angus Galbreath on 9 October 1797. His parents were Donald Galbreath and Florence Darach. I believe this to be my g-g grandfather but have no proof. I have found no marriage between him and Annabella McPhail (his wife) on Islay but one at Paisley High Church. They had two children at Daill. Donald, baptized 17 June 1827 and Flora, baptized 6 November 1831. Donald must have died before they emigrated about 1833. Angus's brother, John, married Janet Smith in Kilarrow, on 25 August 1829. His tombstone here in Ontario says he was from Assabus on the Mull of Oa. There are no Galbraith's listed in 1828 Blackbook list of Tenants on Islay farms in the transcript I saw. I am hoping to find where our family came from before Islay, and possible descendants still on the island. Connie Galbraith Coldwater, Ontario Canada
Hi Connie My ancestor, Neil GALBRAITH, married Mary McEACHERN probably in Oro. They were both born on Islay. I haven't found a marriage record for them, but there children were born in Oro. The children were: Neil b 1846; Flora (my gr-grandmother who married Archie CURRIE IN 1871) b1849 ; Donald and Mary.b 1862. Do you know of this family.
