Hi,J Lochridge. It's been a long time since I've sent anything to the Islay site You mentioned in one of your emails that your Stevenson family farmed at Laggan until 1874 I believe. My ggrandfather Archibald McLugash and family farmed at Laggan from 1872 to some time after 1891 when they left for the mainland ending up at 3 Barness St Barrhead Renfreshire. Does anyone on the list know anything about the farms at Laggan. I believe at one time there were three but not sure. Any info would be appreciated. Janet (Ontario)
Hello Janet,Funny how things click into place, but you may be able to help me. My family friend that we spoke of years ago was Catherine Campbell b 1905. Her father was John Campbell (who may have been a policeman) and Mary McDougall (who may have been McLugash). Ctherine's address when she married Andrew Fleming was 1 Barnes Street Barrhead. When I read your email I began to think of them again and Hey Ho! Andrew Fleming was son of Thomas Fleming.......he features in my McKay Family Tree, his father was first married to my 2X great aunt Janet McKay who died in USA in 1858.,..... but all that is an aside....Do you know if Mary McDougall above was dau of your Archibald McDougall and if so who was her mother?Look forward to hearing from you and sorry I can't help with info on Laggan FarmRegards from a damp west coast of ScotlandJohan From: Janet Farmer via <sct-islay@rootsweb.com> To: "sct-islay@rootsweb.com" <sct-islay@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, 19 May 2016, 19:23 Subject: [SCT-ISLAY] McLugash Hi,J Lochridge. Janet,Further to my email re McLugash, I see that our families also feature at Octofad in 1861 Census. My 4X removed cousin was Farm Manager and your Janet Mitchell was Herd's daughter in same census.
