Hello Everyone, My Husband's 4th Great grandfather is Alexander Campbell of Islay. Alexander (b 1781) was married to Margaret McNiven (born Kildalton, Argyll about 1783) in 1814. They had 3 children that I am aware of. John 1815, Duncan 1816-1890 and Malcolm 1819. Duncan married Mary S Thompson and went on to have 10 children and a well kent poem written about him. Malcolm married an Agnes and had 5 children. John is my husband's 3rd great grandfather, and he married Mary Macfie (or MacPhie born about 1817 in Kildalton) in 1835 in Kilarrow. Mary and John had 6 children between 1836 and 1857 in Kilarrow and Paisley Abbey. Janet 1836 Margaret 1839 Catherine 1843- 1902 Elizabeth 1849 Agnes 1853 and John 1857. John Sr died between 1871 and 1881 census, and Mary went to live Anderston, Glasgow in 1881 with her youngest son. I have not found Mary in the 1891 census yet. My husband's Great Great Gran was Catherine Campbell, born 1843 Paisley, and died 1902 Glasgow. She married John McConnell (born 1840 Bowmore) in 1861 Bowmore. They had 9 children in locations such as Bowmore, Greenock, Govan and Glasgow from 1862 to 1883. The Bowmore child was Mary McConnell born about 1862. My husband's great Gran was child number 8, 1879-1948, Jessie Campbell McConnell born in Glasgow. I am interested in any of the Campbell ancestors from Islay, particularly Alexander or Margaret McNiven, John Campbell Sr, Mary MacPhie, or John McConnell? I've found plenty on Duncan and his children, not so much on Malcolm. I'm hoping Duncan is famous enough from the poem that there may be some information on his Mum and Dad, and that benefits me! Any info on the Campbells of Kilarrow or Bowmore is greatly appreciated! Regards, Lori MacGregor
