    3. Hello, folks..... My g.g.grandparents, James McArthur, and Annabella McGilvray were married at Kilchoman, Islay on 13 Feb 1827, eventually producing my g.grandmother, Mary, b. 1840, christened at Islay House farm 14 Mar 1840. According to info I have received, but not sure about, James' parents were Duncan McArthur and Mary Currie, both born abt. 1770 on Islay ( Orsay?) Roger McWee is working on this for me, but know he is always busy, and since many of y'all seem to be very knowledgeable concerning Islay, and it's history, thought I might also throw this in the communal "ring" to see if anyone else might know anything at all about this family and their descendants. Have various dates of birth for James....1806-1812, and Annabella was daughter of Archibald McGilvray, b. abt. 1776, Kilarrow, d. 5/04/1859, and Margaret McInnes ( McKinnon?), b. abt. 1772, Kilmeny. Any information whatsoever will be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Diana

    3. Hi, Roger.....thank you so much for your efforts. Thought I would see if anyone on the sct-islay group, of whom there seem to be many, might also have these people in their ancestry somewhere, where I might be able to get in touch with descendants, perhaps, of siblings, for instance. Don't even know if James had any siblings. Anyway, I am very appreciative of your time taken in this search. regards, Diana ----- Original Message ----- From: "Roger McWee" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, March 10, 2010 2:51 PM Subject: Re: [SCT-ISLAY] McArthur-McGilvray > > > Hi Dianna, > > Here is what I have, unable to tie your earlier group to Orsay, I have no > records of any McArthurs registered there sorry : > > 1806c James McArthur was born a son of Duncan McArthur & Mary Currie. > > 1807c Annabella McGilvray was born a daughter of Archibald McGilvray & > Margaret (McInnes) McKinnon. > > > > 1827 Annabella McGilvray married James McArthur on the 13th February > Kilchoman parish. > > > > 1828 Mary McArthur (1) was born on the 13th January a daughter of James > McArthur & Anabella McGilvray, Kilchoman parish. > > 1830 Margaret McArthur was born 12th March a daughter of James McArthur & > Anabella McGilvray, Kilchoman parish. > > 1832 Isabella McArthur was born on the 22nd June a daughter of James > McArthur & Anabella McGilvray, Kilchoman parish. > > 1835 John McArthur was born on the 10th March a son of James McArthur & > Anabella McGilvray, Kilchoman parish. > > 1837 Ann McArthur was born on the 7th October a daughter of James McArthur > & > Anabella McGilvray, Islay House Farm, Kilarrow parish. > > 1840 Mary McArthur (2) was born on the 16th ultimo a daughter of James > McArthur, Islay House and Anabella McGilvray. > > 1841 Census registers James McArthur aged 30 & Annabella McArthur aged 25, > wife of Agricultural Labourer and resident at Islay House Farm. 3. Hello Diana My great-grandmother was Ann McGilvray born 1840 at Bowmore and she married John McEachern in 1856. Her parents were Archibald and Anne McGilvray who were aged 50 and 40 respectively in the 1851 census. Any connection? 3. Just a reminder to all those with McGilvray connections that I have a database of the Islay McGilvrays at http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=islaymcgillivray. In addition to all of our wonderful Islay data, there is a comprehensive worldwide database of McGillivrays that was compiled by Roy McGilvray of Ottawa, including the Scottish OPR. Putting the two sources together gives us a big leg up on other surnames. 3. Hi, Janet.....good to hear from you. Don't know if there is a connection, but suspect many of these Islay families were interrelated over the years. Most of what I know about my McGilvrays has come from Russ McGillivray's excellent site...only wish all relations could be researched so extensively. Only Ann I have is my g.g.grandmother's sister, with one entry saying born abt. 1814, Kilchoman, d. 1885, Kildalton, and another giving her birthdate as 7 Oct 1837. According to site, she married John McLergan ( McLean) 3 Mar 1840 in Kilchoman. As I have been spending most of my time trying to find info on James McArthur, who married Annabella McGilvray in 1827, Kilchoman, I am just now getting back to McGilvrays, and hope to find some descendants with memories and family lore. Perhaps folks still living on Islay.
