    3. Hi Sue, Have your checked Victoria County records? Archibald's father joined his daughter Ann at Eldon Township sometime after 1841. I doubt that Archibald and Margaret were at Eldon but there were plenty of Muirs in Ontario. Or you could look in the area of Kilmartin on the mainland. 3. Hi Dougald - Have you found documentation on this? I had always assumed that Charles came to Canada with Peter and Ann and the children. Was there not some story that suggested that Catherine had died aboard ship? It's possible he came with Hugh McArthur and Jane McNabb about 1845. I never heard the story that Catherine died at sea. There is a story that Ann Muirs's son Charles was sick on the voyage and was encouraged by fellow passengers to toss him overboard. She didn't. 3. Charles Monie seems still to be on Islay in 1851 at Ballyvicar, Kildalton minus his wife, living with sons? Charles and Robert etc. As he was the only Charles MONIE on the 1841 Census in Islay - surely he is the same one? Regards Charles Houston Kildalton 2 1 Ballyvicar Charles Monie Male 35 Head Ag. Lab. 3. Hi Jeanette/Dugald (cousins!) I am pleased to note that you have come to the same conclusion that I came to many years ago that the MOANIE (various spellings) & MUIR events all relate to the same family line. You will recall that almost a decade ago I shared this belief with various family members but was not able to prove my hypothesis without access to all the census information. This family spread far and wide from Islay................ Charles & Catherine were still on Islay for the 1841 census - On the 1851 census Charles is still on Islay - a widower staying with his son Robert at Ballyvicar. From this I have deduced that Catherine died in the years between 1841-1851 however I have not yet found her death record. We know that Charles died in Eldon County in 1866 at the age of 90 so he travelled to Canada sometime between 1851 - 1866 I am not sure when Ann (MUIR) & Peter McARTHUR travelled to Canada but I was not able to locate them on the 1841 census for Islay so I have always presumed they had already left Islay by then. The last of their children baptised on Islay that I have on record was Charles bap 17 Mar 1833 in Kildalton. Of Charles & Catherine's 10 children I have the following recorded as to where they/their families ended up: Ann bap 19 Nov 1797 at Kildalton mar Peter McARTHUR > Canada Mary bap 26 Jul 1800 Kildalton mar William MORRISON/McVORRON > stayed on Islay until at least 1851 census date John (my ancestor) bap 24 Apr 1803 mar Mary McMILLAN - stayed on Islay all his life Robert bap 3 Nov 1805 - died young? Archibald bap 22 Apr 1807 - last record of him found so far was his intention to marry Margaret McCuaig in 1848 (I am going to spend some time trying to find him) - I believe that he also went to Canada as family folklore in our line always stated that Charles the father had gone to Canada with three of John MUIR's brothers. Catherine born cir 1810 mar Neil McINNES - stayed on Islay until at least 1860 Islay census Robert bap 24 Jun 1811 - died young? Charles bap 29 Aug 1813 Kildalton mar Catherine McCuaig (relative of Margaret McCuaig????) - he died 1864 and Catherine is found age 50, widow on the 1881 census for Oro County. Charles & Catherine had their last child baptised in Kildalton on 30 Jun 1856 and another child (John) baptised in Eldon on 27 Dec 1862 and from this we have to deduce that they moved to Canada between 1856-1862. Robert born circa 1815 Kildalton married Mary McDOUGAL - stayed on Islay until at least 1851 census Malcolm bap 1 Jun 1817 Kildalton married Margaret/Peggy CALDER - stayed on Islay until at least 1861 census. I have not worked on this family line for many years but I see that I still have a lot of "missing" information that I will look for. I would love to collaborate with my cousins to fill in some of the gaps on this family - and especially to find out what became of Archibald............ I have a hypothesis that Ann & Peter McARTHUR went to Canada first and sometime between 1851-1861 they persuaded a large part of the family to join them there - I believe that the sons Archibald, Charles & Robert together with their aged father Charles moved en-mass to Canada - now I just need to find the documentation to prove this. Kind regards Nolene Lossau
