Hi David Subject: [SCT-ISLAY] McDermid, I do not have any direct links to your McDermids that I can trace. My McDermids seem to all be Kilchoman. Thru our Gillies links in the 1700's there are links to McArthur, the names Donald and Catherine do appear in our line, the others do not seem to, however this is not to say they didn't at some stage, it is just often a clue. It is very hard to get any info prior to the late 1700's so prior to this I am sure there is a lot of connection between the McDermids but just impossible to tie up. They seem to be mainly in the parishes of Kilchoman, Kilarrow and Bowmore. Sorry can't help you further. Married Beatrix McEwen on 29-Jan-1780 at Kildalton. Only have details of 1 child, who was: Peter McDermid, b.8-Jun-1797, Kildalton, who married Catherine McArthur 24-Sep-1820, Killarrow. They had: Ann, Margaret, Peter, Catherine, Donald, Rose & Sarah all born between 1822 and 1838, mainly in Kildalton. Ann is my main interest who married William Ramsay on 1-Jan-1848. The Ramsay family soon left Islay for Shotts on mainland Scotland. My wife is descended from them. So, any links/addtional info on these McDermids? Peter Seeing that your McDermids are in Kilchoman - do you have any connections to Catherine McDermid married to James McArthur - aprox. 1770's. I descend from daughter Margaret McArthur b 1773 who married Gilbert Currie aprox. 1795 most likely Kilchoman. Margaret and Gilbert's daughter Mary Currie married John McDermid 1823, Kilchoman. Sorry Lynn, I can't pick up a connection here. The only connection to McArthurs is thru my Catherine Gilles family who married Donald McDermid.
