Mac and Brenda, Sometimes we know that we are tantilizingly (or frustratingly) close to a connection. Like now. A Flora McKenzie married Daniel/Donald Sinclair around 1819, both from Kilchoman parish. According to family tradition, Daniel's mother was a Mary Campbell(possibly a sister of your Flora?) It is believed that they came to Canada first, then to North Carolina. Could this Flora McKenzie have been a daughter of your Alexander McKenzie and Flora Campbell? I know that they had 1 daughter, Catherine, born on Islay around 1820 (according to her gravestone). Yesterday I was looking at the ShipsList website, and found on a list of passengers on the steamer from Quebec City to Montreal that there was a listing for D. and A. Sinclair in 1821. Could this have been Daniel, and his brother, Archibald[who also turned up in NC]? No mention of wives, but they might have immigrated ahead in order to get their land grant and build some sort of shelter first. Since Islay folks often travelled in groups, could you check that website to see if you recognize any names that occur in your families, such as Cameron or Ferguson. It's just an idea, but it might lead us somewhere. Toni, we talked some time ago about Flora and Daniel but have never been able to confirm a link. It does look entirely possible that Flora was a daughter of Alexander MacKenzie and Flora Campbell. The location is right, the date is right, the name is right, just no proof. I will check the shipping list. > From: [email protected] > To: [email protected] > Date: Thu, 11 Feb 2010 18:59:00 +0000 > Subject: Re: [SCT-ISLAY] MacKenzie, Islay, 1700s > > > A Flora McKenzie married Daniel/Donald Sinclair around 1819, both from Kilchoman parish.
