    3. Hi Ruth, I spotted the mention of Thomson Street, south side, Bowmore in the recent thread and realised that my great great aunt's in-laws , Archibald McNiven, a Sailor, who died in the Kilarrow Workhouse in 1872, and Catherine Livingston, his wife, were the couple with the 3 year old James McKenzie as a boarder in the 1851 census. I don't know anymore about this poor wee soul but just in case he turns out to be related to your McKenzies I do have information on Archibald McNiven and his descendants. Archibald and Catherine had at least 6 children. Their names , in order of birth were Nancy, Janet, Catherine, Mary, John, and Archibald. All six children were born on Islay, from 1828 till 1856. Nancy, the eldest, married an Alexander Livingston, a Wright, about 1850. I am afraid I don't have any info on the middle children. Archibald, the youngest, maried a Margaret Fullarton. Archibald and Margaret were married at Govan, Glasgow. This Archibald was a Baker(Journeyman) and they produced 8 children. They seem to have lived in Govan for most of their married life. Their childrens names were Archibald, Duncan Fullarton, Margaret Fullarton, Catherine Livingstone, John, Janet, Alan Maxwell Graham, and Donald Fullarton. Archibald McNiven (Baker), died in 1917 at Gourock, and his wife Mary died 12 years later in 1929 at 14 Hillhead Gardens, Hillhead, Glasgow.
